The theme for World Breastfeeding Week 2025 is “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.”
It goes without saying that it takes a village, but did you know how important accessibility and support is to a successful breastfeeding journey? It’s crucial.
The use of proper resources and the access to such, is a major initiative of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week. Establishing long-term support networks and valuing the time and effort of breastfeeding and pumping mothers in multiple settings (the work place, in the community, healthcare facilities etc) is paramount.
While acceptance and support is growing, we do not live in a perfect world. If you have someone in your life who’s goal is to breastfeed or is currently doing so, or maybe they are an exclusive pumper (the situation for NICU families), make sure you acknowledge their sacrifice and support them.
Happy World Breastfeeding week 2025, may those that are in it feel valued and empowered.
For those who may not be but have interest in doing so, do your research, find local support groups & other resources. Educate those around you who don’t see the value. IBCLC’s are in your community and can take most insurances. Hospitals have location support both inpatient and outpatient. Ask your friendly doula for additional information. 😉
