She attended Hardin High School where she participated in vocal music, drama, and sports. (Which in those days were called the Girls Athletic Association). Nancy’s summers were spent as a life guard at the public swimming pool.

After graduation, in 1955, she came to Sidney to help her sister Frances after surgery and began working for Ohio Oil Company. While attending a dance in the spring of 1956, she met Leo Wolff and they were married October 6, 1956 in Hardin, Montana. Leo farmed with his father west of Sidney for five years, where four children Daniel, Stephen, Michael, and Christina were born. In March of 1962 they moved to the farm southeast of Gurley where they lived for 30 years. During this time two more children, Gregory and Catherine, were added to this family. She loved taking care of her family-babysitting children, grand-children, and great grandchildren. Cooking for holidays and special holidays especially the annual Christmas gathering. She made many handmade afghans, quilts, and other items for them. All the grandchildren and great-grandchildren have homemade Christmas stockings. She was proud of the fact that she never worked outside her home and was able to attend school activities, and be available to babysit and help with the chores and farming.

Nancy and her three sisters Frances Block, Patricia Collier, and Margaret Pratt took several “girls” trips together until the death of Patricia and Margaret. Her and Francis continued their trips having many adventures together. They traveled to Canada, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and around Nebraska. Fran was the chauffer and hand holder during the long illness of Leo before his death in July of 2013.

Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces. Your courage, sacrifice, and dedication have safeguarded the freedoms we hold dear.

At Gehrig-Stitt Chapel, we are forever grateful for the veterans in our community and across our nation — those who served, those still serving, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

May we never take for granted the cost of freedom, and may we always remember to say: Thank you, Veterans!
