Synergy Home Care Owner Steps Up to Support Local Education
Kelly Hyman believes strong communities are built when businesses invest in the next generation. As co-owner of Synergy Home Care in Sierra Vista, she is bringing that philosophy to life by becoming more involved with local schools and students.
Hyman and her husband, Mike, moved to Sierra Vista nearly four years ago from Chicago, where she spent 27 years working as a high school teacher in alternative education. After decades in the classroom, the couple decided to pursue their dream of starting their own business and opened Synergy Home Care in late 2022. While the business has grown rapidly, Hyman says her passion for education has never faded.
Her years as a teacher shaped how she views the relationship between schools and the broader community. She saw firsthand how valuable it could be for students to learn directly from professionals working in different industries something that teachers alone cannot always provide.
That perspective led her to become involved in a new initiative focused on connecting local businesses with students. Hyman learned about the opportunity through a Sierra Vista Area Chamber of Commerce event. As secretary of the Chamber’s board of directors, she is already deeply engaged with the region’s business community and quickly saw the potential impact of the program.
She believes that when businesses step forward to share their knowledge and resources, students gain a clearer understanding of career opportunities and the skills needed to succeed after graduation. For Hyman, participating in the effort is also a way to help teachers by providing the type of community support she once wished had been available in her own classroom.
Hyman has already begun connecting with Village Meadows Elementary School, where her nieces attend, and is exploring ways Synergy Home Care can assist through services, financial support, and by encouraging other businesses to become involved as well. She views the effort as a responsibility shared by business owners to help guide the next generation toward becoming engaged and productive members of the community.
At the same time, Synergy Home Care continues to expand its footprint across Cochise County. The company provides in-home care services for individuals who prefer to remain in their homes rather than move to assisted living or long-term care facilities. Services range from short visits such as helping a client shower a few times a week to around-the-clock care for those with more significant needs.
While much of the company’s work involves senior citizens, its services extend to people of all ages who require assistance at home. Synergy Home Care is contracted with the Department of Developmental Disabilities to serve younger clients and also works with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide care for veterans throughout the region. The company also partners with Medicaid programs to help individuals who might not otherwise be able to afford private in-home care services.
The business has grown quickly since opening, now employing more than 100 caregivers along with six office staff members. With a large and growing client base throughout Cochise County, the company recently expanded by opening a second office in Douglas.
The demand for caregivers continues to rise, and Hyman sees the field as a promising opportunity for people interested in meaningful work. She hopes that as partnerships with local schools develop, students may begin exploring caregiving and healthcare-related careers.
Synergy Home Care has already worked with students through presentations at Cochise College and has previously collaborated with Buena High School seniors, providing training opportunities that led to several students being hired and placed in the field with additional support.
For Hyman, efforts like these reflect the same goal that guided her years in education: helping young people find their path. Now, as a business owner, she hopes to bridge the gap between classrooms and careers by encouraging more local organizations to play an active role in shaping the future workforce.
And while Synergy Home Care continues to grow, Hyman says the focus remains the same serving the community while helping others thrive.
