"DON'T REST YOUR FOOT ON YOUR KNEE IN TREE POSE".

This video was taken about a year ago... that was before I learned about safe practices in yoga... oops!

BTW your knee only moves in two directions. Protect your knee by resting the foot on the calf or inner thigh. Avoid resting on the knee, it doesn't bend that side-to-side.

Are you an active participant in your life? Or are you just letting life pass by while you continue to scroll?

There are so many layers and perspectives to this idea...

-I hear about terrible things in the news, what am I doing to fight for what is right? I need to speak up and speak loud.

-I show up to a couple times a week, but am I really putting in the work to become physically/mentally stronger? I could be more consistent, wake up earlier, and prioritize my health.

-I do yoga almost daily, but am I really practicing stillness for that mental clarity? Some days.

-I'm posting more to social media lately, but what is my end goal? IDK. I need to do some self-study (svadhyaya) for this one..

I'm just rambling my thoughts here. This post is kind of like a journal entry for me. There is no room for shame in my life anymore. I don't want to let life lead me. It's time to get clear on what I stand for, what I actually want to spend my life doing, and be an active participant in this life. ✌️

Root to Rise is a quirky class that is all the things I love about yoga.

It has balance, challenge, and feel good slow flow.

"I just come for savasana" is something I hear all the time... But savasana used to be so uncomfortable for me that I genuinely didn't understand why people enjoyed it that much. I would lay there at the end of class, try not to fidget, and let my mind race with anything to fill the void of silence in the room.

Last year I learned that “Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.”

To me that sounds like meditation and maybe that's the whole point of savasana... We do all these fancy yoga postures so we can finally ease into stillness.

Typically, I need a guided meditation to really feel like I'm doing meditation right. Lol. And naturally, I've gravitated towards more challenging yoga classes in the past to make it easier to just enjoy laying on ground. Because I was so exhausted that I could just relax.

But over the past year, I've committed to being more intentional with my savasana. And slowly I've learned that those silent minutes at the end of yoga class, is the real work of yoga. It's the moment in my day where I let go of everything and just be. Just exist.

Some days I can just melt into the mat, and other days I have to be more disciplined in meditation. But I like it now. My head is calmer now that I've learned to just let go.

6 years ago my life flipped upside down when I left the Mormon church.
Leaving a high-demand religion meant rebuilding my entire worldview. My identity. My community. Everything.

For a couple years, I did therapy to help process it all. And therapy gave me tools that truly helped.
But eventually I realized...
At some point, you have to stop talking about how to heal… and start doing the homework the therapist assigns.

That’s when yoga became a bigger part of my life.

Yoga helped me:
-Manage depression and anxiety.
-Regulate my nervous system.
-Make healthier choices.
-Enjoy movement again.
-And find a community of open minded people.

While yoga isn't a religion, it is an entire philosophy.
And the eight limbs of yoga have realigned my life after religion.

To put it dramatically, yoga saved my life😉

We all find ways to deal with difficult things in life. So I'm curious, what's your therapy???

About a month ago, our little yoga community did a little plunge. 2X!!
We signed up for the Special Olympics polar plunge.
Before jumping into freezing water, we stood together in our yoga superhero poses while they announced our team name: The Zen Force.

But the best part wasn’t the plunge or even how good we felt after the plunge.

Afterward we got to spend time with some of the incredible Special Olympics athletes and hear how excited they were for this event. Their energy and joy made the whole day feel bigger than just a fundraiser.
Moments like this remind me how special this community is.

What started as just yoga classes has turned into something much deeper: friendship, support, and people I’m so grateful to call some of my closest friends.
Feeling really lucky to be part of this crew.
The Zen Force 🧘‍♀️❄️

Most people only see the final yoga class.
They don’t see the part where I’m alone in my living room practicing a sequence… writing it down… trying it again… changing it… second-guessing it.
I’m still a new yoga teacher. And honestly, sometimes it’s scary to stand up and guide a room when there are teachers I admire who make it look so effortless.
There’s pressure in my head to make every class great.

To be creative.
To be inspiring.
To be worthy of the opportunity.

But instead of waiting until I feel ready… I’m practicing something different.

I do it anyways.
I show up each weekend.
I keep creating.
I keep teaching.

And because I put myself out there and kepp showing up. I've been given opportunities I never expected and met incredible people along the way.
I think that’s how we find our place in the world.
Not by waiting until we’re confident.
But by showing up before we are and just do it anyways.
