Dustin's Dream

Dustin's Dream Dustin Lee Chamberlain was a Sophomore at Baylor University, majoring in Biology and pre-med when he left this world as we know it for his Heavenly Home.

Our Mission: Sharing the transformational love of God by meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of at-risk individuals and families in Guatemala and beyond. On December 15, 2011, after just returning home for Christmas break, Dustin was tragically shot and killed during a home invasion. Dustin was actively involved in the MSO (Medical Service Organization), AMSA (American Medical Service Organization), and the Bear Pit (a basketball spirit organization) at Baylor University. He attended Harris Creek Baptist Church in McGregor, TX. Dustin’s dream was to be involved in the medical field as well as participate in mission trips abroad or at home. Students at Baylor remember Dustin as a mighty man of God, an encourager, studious, and genuinely kind. When students questioned Dustin as to how he could consistently make wise choices and stand firm in his faith, Dustin would reply, “Because I love God with all my heart and I don’t want to give Him less than my best.”

Prior to his time at Baylor, Dustin attended Siloam Springs High School where he was a vital member of the basketball, cross country and golf programs. Dustin also participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentoring program, and was an Arkansas Scholar. Dustin graduated in May 2010 with 4.0 GPA. At 20 years of age, Dustin’s work here on earth was accomplished. And while our family has struggled to understand God’s sovereignty, love, and perfect will, God has proven Himself to us over and over again. Our desire is that Dustin’s Dream will be a successful organization that will share God’s love in a dark and hurting world, and that Dustin’s legacy will continue to impact souls for Christ.

Final update!

FRI - The team stuck around the settlement area of the Guatemala City dump. They visited different homes, bringing with them bag of groceries and prayerful hearts as they conversed with families. After lunch, the ladies from the Celebrate Recovery ministry had a round table discussion with Pastor Saul and Dr. Layla to talk about the Freedom House and recovery ministry. That evening, the team served a warm meal to anyone and everyone in the settlement community who came to the feeding.

SAT - This morning was an early one as the team headed back to Xenacoj to worship with the men of the Freedom House. A member of the team shared her testimony and another led in the singing of “Lord, I Need You.” It was an encouraging time!
The rest of the day was spent primarily at the Guatemala City airport, as a delayed flight has made for a wrench in travel plans home. Please pray for smooth travels the remainder of the way and for physical health for the team 🙏🏼

The last two days have been an incredible time of ministry for the ladies from who have experience with recovery ministry!

WED - The team went to the Freedom House in the village of Xenacoj. There, they had the opportunity to do hair cuts and nails for women and men from the community, including many who currently reside in the Freedom House. They then took the Freedom House volunteers out to eat as a special way to treat them and thank them for the ways they serve the Lord and other men in recovery. It was a fun time!
Wednesday evening was spent back in the city at the peregrinos (“pilgrims”) service. Shelley shared her story of recovery that resonated with several. The team also continued doing hair and nails. The hope was that this would be a really tangible way to love on these individuals, would give them a greater sense of dignity, and would just be fun for all.

THURS - This morning, the team did home visits in Xenacoj. They were able to step into families’ homes and pray with families about the things weighing on their hearts while also delivering the gift of groceries. The afternoon was spent in Antigua, experiencing some of the beautiful culture of Guatemala and provided a bit of reprieve for the team amidst a busy week.

Thank you for your continued prayers! Tomorrow is the last full day there in Guatemala!

We’ve got a lot to catch up on from the last few days!

SUN - The team served breakfast to children from the settlement community and joined in on their Bible lesson before attending the 2nd service at Cristo es El Camino Iglesia Bautista. Later, they walked through the settlement to see the faces they would be serving and spend time praying for the community.

MON - This day was spent at Corazón de Amor (Heart of Love Clinic) in Zone 3. The team took on different roles - vitals station, pharmacy, prayer room - and spent the day serving many of the same faces they had seen the day before as well as several new.

TUES - Today, the team headed to the village of Xenacoj for a morning of clinic at Casa de Libertad (the Freedom House) and an afternoon of home visits. A clinic does not currently exist there in Xenacoj, so the team was able to provide care for people who would otherwise have to travel to access medical care. The village of Xenacoj is a beautiful place, but one burdened by the weight of generational alcoholism. It is rampant. The team ministered to various families and shared the hope we have in Jesus as well as gifted families with groceries during their home visits.

The final recap!

On Friday, the men constructed a roof for a family in Zone 3 of Guatemala City before visiting the homes of several families within the local community. That evening, the team served warm meals to the community within the settlements, feeding ~300. The roof constructed, the grocery bags delivered on home visits, and the warm meals administered all served as tangible reminders of God’s care and provision. Our hope is that providing these items alongside the Good News of Jesus brings hope and sparks transformation. The team of guys left the following day and journeyed back home to the States!

Keep an eye out as we share more updates from this week’s mission team of ladies from Grace Community Church in Bartlesville, OK!

The men’s construction team spent the past two days at work in the village of Xenacoj.

WED - In the morning, the men visited the homes of several families, hearing of these families unique hardships and providing the hope of the gospel as well as fervent prayer. One young woman they met recently had a stroke and was no longer able to continue working, as she needed rehabilitation from the stroke. She had 3 little mouths to feed and provide for at home. That afternoon, the team installed many stoves for families. Although unlike the concept of our American cooking stove, these stoves are a big upgrade and provide both a reliable and safe way for families to prepare meals. Wednesday night, the team served at the worship and feeding for the peregrinos (men, women, and children living on the streets).

THURS - For a group of men, there were many tear-filled eyes as the team shared their testimonies. It was encouraging for the men of the Freedom House to see guys from other parts of the world who have walked their own paths of struggle and hardship, though they may look different. There were stories of hope and victory laced with God’s faithfulness. The group as a whole spent time in prayer with one another. It was a really meaningful time and a reminder that our hope is built in Christ alone.

The men’s construction team hit the ground running since the start of their time in Guatemala! Here’s a glimpse at what that’s entailed so far:

MON - This day was spent at Corazón de Amor (Heart of Love Clinic) in Guatemala City, helping alongside Dr. Layla & her staff. The guys divided and conquered, some in the prayer room, some in vitals, and others in pharmacy. 102 patients came through the clinic. These individuals and families were prayed for as well as met with tangible medical care.

TUES - Today, the team drove to the village of Xenacoj and spent their time working on Casa de Libertad (Freedom House). Every little bit of help goes a long way to continue serving men with addictions who long for freedom. Thank you for your continued prayers!
