So thankful for our City’s Police Department for all the hard work they do not only protecting our city but partnering with programs like CR to offer help to overcome your hurts, habits and hangups! Thank you Siloam Springs Police Department for all you do!
The Siloam Springs Police Department has been awarded a TruNarc Handheld Narcotics Analyzer from the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership. Siloam Springs Police Department will use this analyzer to help combat rising drug use and track drug trends in the area.
Data from the Siloam Springs Police Department for the last ten years shows that there have been 156 calls where the word "overdose" was used in the initial reporting of the incident. Of these, 83 of the calls were closed as "Transported to Hospital," indicating they were of a more serious nature. In addition, this data shows 1,236 arrest for Drug/Narcotics Violations, and 685 arrests for Drug Equipment Violations. For this time frame, the Siloam Springs Police Department seized approximately $643,572.06 worth of illegal substances.
The Siloam Springs Police Department will use the TruNarc to accurately identify narcotic threats the city faces and respond accordingly. They will provide monthly reports to further data collection and drug trend tracking efforts in Arkansas.
Deputy Chief Derek Spicer said "SROs and Officers having access to the TruNarc system adds another valuable tool for the officers both in the schools and on the street. This new technology provides officers the ability to attain accurate and timely results to identify any dangerous substances therefore providing additional protection for the students, staff and public. We are thrilled to have been awarded the TruNarc System and look forward to utilizing it."
This project comes with support from Siloam Springs Mayor Judy Nation and Benton County Judge Barry Moehring.
