The Mindful Heart LLC

The Mindful Heart LLC Providing Psychotherapy to Children, Adults, Couples, & Families; Nutrition Counseling Services Are Welcome to the Mindful Heart!!

We work with individuals, couples, families, and children. We specialize in relationship issues, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, trauma, family conflicts, and grief. Our goal is to help clients understand themselves better and improve their quality of life and relationships. We cater our approach to each client, responding to your unique problems and personality style. This is not a "one-size-fits-all" practice. People are not always aware of why they are feeling distressed, behaving in certain ways or repeating patterns. By providing a safe and thoughtful environment, we collaborate with our clients to develop a deeper understanding of their thoughts, feelings and behaviors and to identify underlying issues that may be interfering with their quality of life. We all live together in the same society, but the complex factors that affect each of us create challenges that sometimes make it hard to lead happy, satisfying lives. Learning how to access our inner strength is something each of us is capable of and this empowerment is the key to resolving confusion, pain & suffering.

As a psychotherapist and working musician, Toby loves to support the emotional health of artists, creatives, misfits, entrepreneurs, founders, and people with hidden creative identities subsumed by modern life. 28.8 million Americans will have an eating disorder in their lifetime.

15% of women will suffer from an eating disorder by their 40s or 50s, but only 27% receive any treatment for it.

Men represent up to 25% of people with eating disorders. Even so, women are up to five times more likely to be diagnosed.

Eating Disorders don’t discriminate and affect people of every age, race, size, gender identity, sexual orientation and background.

Every 52 minutes, someone dies of an eating disorder. 💔

These statistics are jarring, but they are REAL.

I had the honor of attending the Breaking Bread Gala for last night and as was my experience last year, it was such an incredibly moving and empowering evening.

Getting to hear so many inspiring stories of healing, strength and recovery was nothing short of amazing.

Rock Recovery is a nonprofit focused on making life-saving outpatient eating disorder therapy and support accessible and affordable for all.

My lovely friend,
invited me to attend, as she sits on the board at Rock Recovery and has made it her mission as a board member and as the owner of to support those struggling with this awful disease and to help them find healing, hope and a genuine path forward toward freedom from disordered eating. Your work is so needed, so inspiring, so valuable, and I have nothing but admiration for the positive impact you are having on so many. 🙏

His story is a powerful reminder that mental health doesn’t discriminate. Even those who seem to "have it all" may be fighting battles we don’t see. Check in on those around you. A single text, conversation, or moment of support could make all the difference. You are not alone.

“You have to take care of your brain just like you take care of your body.”

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver (and Super Bowl LIX champion!) A. J. Brown has been open about his mental health since experiencing a mental health crisis in 2020. Since then, he’s become a true advocate for seeking help and destigmatizing conversations around mental health.

Thank you for speaking up about mental health, A. J.! 💚🦅

We as humans CAN do hard things.
It may feel overwhelming at times, and completely unattainable at others, but we have the capacity to persevere through even the most challenging of circumstances. It doesn’t have to be pretty or graceful, but we make it happen.
We can conquer a lot more than we give ourselves credit for.

Sometimes it’s the most difficult roads that lead us to the most beautiful and incredible destinations. Sometimes it’s the unexpected bumps in the road that give us perspective, build character and create new and unique opportunities for ourselves that we may not have known existed. Sometimes it’s these bumps that bring us out of our shell to discover something neat and learn something new about ourselves.
Remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.
We CAN do hard things and our courage and resilience always win.

Dedicating this post today to a strong, resilient, brave and incredible woman I know, who is currently doing the the hardest of things and taking names with her grit and courage.💗🐧

If this post speaks to you, I see you and I see your unwavering strength.

Happy !

In a world where you can choose to be so many things...BE KIND!⁣

*Be kind to the person who appears to have it “all together” every second of every day; not every battle that we face is a battle one can see⁣. And often times, it’s those who we think are just “living the dream” that may be struggling the most.

*Be kind to the person who is not great at following thru with plans; mental health is not always predictable and in any 7-day period, the ratio of good days to bad days may shift and evolve.

*Be kind to the person who struggles reaching out and may isolate. When in the midst of a depressive episode for example, it can be excruciatingly painful for folks to engage or be around others. Anxiety can present in this way too!

*Be kind to the person who may appear standoffish or reserved; Anxiety can be incredibly paralyzing and this is one way it manifests.

*Be kind to the person who may appear disinterested.

*Be kind to the person who may seem disengaged. ⁣

*Be kind to the person who may be short-tempered⁣.

Sometimes it’s just not about us!
We can be quick in our society to take things personally and to internalize the behavior of others.
A challenge for all of us is to practice “the pause” and be dialectical.
Practice taking a step back when someone’s behavior is impacting you and think about its function. And ask yourself, is this my stuff or their stuff? And while the behavior may still upset you and/or be hurtful (valid!), try to hold the other reality simultaneously that maybe they are going through something and one of the above might be true.

Bottom Line:⁣
Choose kindness because you never know the struggles that people are having, what hardships they have faced, or trauma they have endured. Do not underestimate what impact a smile, a hug, a simple compliment, a generous gesture, being a listening ear or just giving someone the benefit of the doubt can do💗⁣

Treat today in a way that suits your needs, and that can be everything from extensive celebration to observing today like any other Sunday. It’s okay for a day like today to spark emotions that differ drastically from the reels of positivity you may see scattered across social media. All emotions and feelings are welcome today and are allowed without judgement or shame. I see you and you got this💗

All of these!💗
