An independent vaccine advisory group said on Thursday it will conduct a scientific evidence review of a vaccine used to prevent cervical and other cancers that U.S. health officials this week said should only be given as a single dose, contrary to the shot's FDA approval.

Pediatric Associates of Montgomery County
Family Memo: Our Commitment to Vaccination

Dear Families,

We are writing to reassure you that Pediatric Associates of Montgomery County will continue to provide vaccines according to long-standing, evidence-based guidance and recommended immunization schedules. We are not changing our vaccine policies or practices in response to recent announcements from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) this week.

You may have seen news coverage regarding recent CDC communications related to vaccine recommendations and administrative processes. These updates primarily reflect changes in how certain recommendations are communicated or reviewed, not changes in the underlying science supporting childhood and adolescent immunizations.

Importantly:

The recommended childhood and adolescent immunization schedules remain in place.
Vaccines continue to be thoroughly studied for safety and effectiveness.
Professional medical organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), continue to strongly support routine vaccination as one of the most effective ways to protect children and communities from serious illness.

At Pediatric Associates of Montgomery County, we continue to follow:
American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations
Evidence-based best practices rooted in decades of pediatric research and clinical experience

Our physicians and clinical staff remain committed to protecting your child’s health, answering your questions, and partnering with you in making informed medical decisions. If you have concerns or would like to discuss vaccines in more detail, we encourage you to speak directly with your child’s provider.

Thank you for trusting us with your child’s care.

Warmly,
Pediatric Associates of Montgomery County

Great analogy.

Alt text. A meme by Unbiased Science Podcast. On the left side is an image of a seatbelt, while on the right side is an image of a syringe. Both images are stylised and in black. The text reads:

SEATBELTS & VACCINES

Both need to be in place before an incident occurs to be effective.

Both save thousands of lives daily.

Both can reduce the severity of outcomes if something bad occurs.

Adverse events or injuries associated with their use are far more rare and less severe than consequences if they are not used.

Their use does not give you a pass for reckless behavior.

Replacing the U.S. vaccine schedule with one like Denmark’s would be negligence.

Measles is one of the most contagious infectious diseases known – the virus can live for up to 2 hours in the air where infected people have coughed or sneezed, or on surfaces they may have touched. Symptoms include high fever accompanied by a blotchy red rash, cough and a runny nose.

Most people who have gotten sick during the ongoing measles outbreaks taking place around the country have not been vaccinated, serving as a reminder of the importance of vaccination for children. The MMR vaccine is highly effective in helping kids build the strongest immunity against measles. Parents are encouraged to speak with their pediatrician with questions about the MMR vaccine or measles.
