New evidence is in: when treating pediatric sepsis, clinicians can confidently use either of the most common IV fluids.

A large international study supported by Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network shows no meaningful difference in outcomes between 0.9% saline and balanced fluids.

That’s a big step forward—especially for emergency departments where access and supply can vary.

Follow-up on Broselow Rainbow Tape safety

Following our December safety alert, the FDA has now issued an update regarding medication dosing errors on certain AirLife Broselow Rainbow Tapes (2025 Edition, Rev 3). In addition, AirLife notified affected customers on December 15 with instructions to remove impacted tapes from clinical use.

EDs and pediatric teams are encouraged to recheck their inventory and confirm that 2025 AirLife Broselow Rainbow Tapes (versions 1, 2, and 3) are no longer in use.

This update reflects ongoing review by the FDA and reinforces earlier guidance to discontinue affected tapes to support safe pediatric emergency care.
