Comfrey - Symphytum officinale
One of my all time favorites and most used herbs. Unfortunately it is also a controversial herb which the FDA, has silenced the miraculous benefits of. When a plant decreases tumor growth, that is what happens.
Parts used are the root and leaves. I use the leaves in my applications.
Therapeutic actions:
Demulcent, cell proliferant, astringent, nutritive, tonic, expectorant, hemostatic, alternative (cleans blood), vulnerary (heals wounds), mucilage, styptic.
Historical medicinal uses:
Cancer, abnormal blood diseases, cough, ulcerated and inflamed lung conditions, bronchitis, hemorrhage, asthma, tuberculosis, pharyngitis, pleurisy, pneumonia, breast pain, chest pain, heart problems, anemia, gangrene, gout, leukorrhea, female debility, boils, inflamed stomach or bowels, ulcerated kidneys, kidney stones, bloody urine, colitis, diarrhea, dysentery, chest pains, gum disease, gum boils, sinusitis, venous problems, sunburns, burns, insect bites, rashes, eczema, bruises, sprains, broken bones.
Comfrey contains mucilage, tannin, phosphates of sodium, potassium, calcium, arantoin, iron, and a little starch. It is said you could live on comfrey as it contains high amounts of protein as well. The amount of protein obtained from every acre of comfrey can be almost twenty times that of soybeans. It is one of the few plants that can extract B-12 from the soil. It is high in vitamin A as well and contains other B vitamins.
Dr Shook also included comfrey with five other herbs in his number one most remarkable formula for restoring health.
