As the weather gets warmer most tend to spend more time outside. It is important to call 911 if you or someone you may be around shows signs of heat stroke as it could be a life threatening emergency and may need immediate treatment.

How to avoid Heat Exhaustion/Heat Stroke:
🔵 Stay Hydrated with water or electrolytes
🔵Avoid alcohol/caffeine if you are doing strenuous activities
🔵 Find shade while outside
🔵 Never leave kids or pets in hot cars
🔵 Wear light clothing and a hat

With school starting back and everyone posting photos of your adorable children, please be mindful of revealing personal information about your child. Their full name, name of their school, grade, age and other identifying tidbits can be used by predators and scammers. The safest practice is to keep personal information to a minimum, no matter your privacy settings or friends. Have a great school year!

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are both heat-related illnesses, but they have different symptoms and severity levels:

Heat Exhaustion:
- Symptoms: Heavy sweating, weakness, cool and clammy skin, headache, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, muscle cramps
- Treatment: Move to a cool place, rest, drink cool water, use cool compresses, and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen or last longer than one hour

Heat Stroke:
- Symptoms: High body temperature (above 103°F), hot and dry skin, rapid pulse, confusion, unconsciousness, seizures
- Treatment: Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately and take steps to cool the person down while waiting for help, such as moving them to a shaded area, removing excess clothing, and applying cool water or ice packs

It's important to take heat-related illnesses seriously and take precautions to prevent them, such as staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activity in hot weather, and seeking shade or air conditioning when it's hot outside. If you suspect someone has heat stroke, seek medical help immediately.
