Meet another therapist... Ms. Katie K!

When I'm not at work, I am spending time with my family and friends or enjoying an episode of reality TV. I like to go on walks and listen to a good podcast. This summer, I am really hoping to start a garden!

You can always find Katie K around the clinic sippin' on her coffee, tea bomb, or a dirty soda. She is known for her "expert" advice on whole foods, and healthy trends, but you'll also find her pullin through the McDonald's drive-thru enjoying some Mcnuggets😂 Katie is witty and full of s***k! We love having her great personality around the clinic!

Meet another speech therapist... Ms. Devyn!

Outside of work, I enjoy snuggling up with my pups and a good thriller novel! I enjoy tackling a project outside or inside ...organizing all the things to make my house a home. When I'm finished with that, I'll be taking a nap!

Devyn is a wealth of knowledge! Her expertise as a speech therapist can often help anyone around the clinic with a question they have. We are so lucky to have her on the team!

Tell me you do play-based speech therapy without telling me you do play-based speech therapy. 😅

✨ The sensory beans are in everyone’s shoes
✨ There’s kinetic sand in places we can’t explain
✨ The toy kitchen somehow exploded
✨ We’re finding tiny animals under furniture for days
✨ The therapy room looked “clean” for approximately 4 minutes
✨ A child had so much fun they didn’t realize how hard they were working

But behind the mess is something really meaningful. 🤍

In play-based speech therapy, kids learn best when they feel safe, engaged, connected, and excited to participate. What looks like “just play” is actually intentional therapy targeting language, social communication, problem-solving, turn-taking, sensory regulation, and confidence.

So yes… the room may look chaotic afterward.
But to us, it looks like learning, connection, communication, and progress.

And honestly? We’ll take the mess every time. 🫶

Hi Childworks families! Haircuts can be one of the more challenging transitions for children with sensory processing needs. The combination of loud clippers, physical touch, and being required to sit still often creates a high-stress environment for both the child and the parent.

Lately, we’ve heard excellent feedback from some of our families regarding Cruzito's Barber Shop in Sioux City. Cruzito's Barber Shop

Parents have noted that Cruz is patient, accommodating, and willing to adapt their environment to meet a child’s specific needs—whether that means ditching the clippers for scissors or simply moving at a slower pace. Finding a stylist who understands "sensory-first" care makes a world of difference in building a child's confidence.

We’d like to build a local resource list.

If you have a barber or stylist in the area who has been patient and successful with your child, please mention them in the comments. Let us know what specifically makes them a great fit.
