Meet Dr. Gillian Biggerstaff, DC, FMACP – Therapeutic Recreation Specialist at Rosecrance Jackson Centers

When someone enters residential treatment, they’re choosing hope. They’re choosing change. They’re choosing themselves.

As our Lead Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Dr. Gillian creates intentional spaces where recovery comes to life — not just in conversation, but in experience.

Through art, movement, mindfulness, recreation, and meaningful connection, clients rediscover joy, rebuild confidence, and reconnect with who they are — and who they want to become.

With a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic and advanced training in Functional Medicine, restorative movement, yoga, and breathwork, Dr. Gillian approaches healing through a whole-person lens. Over time, her work evolved into what she believes most deeply: healing is physical, emotional, social, creative, and spiritual.

“By offering engaging sober-living experiences, I strive to empower clients to build life skills for success and rebuild lives they genuinely love living.”

Therapeutic Recreation isn’t just about activities.
It’s about identity, strength, and hope for a beautiful future.

February is Family Support Awareness Month.

We want to take a moment to highlight the importance of strengthening family units through support services, resources, and community connections. With this support, families can foster a safe, stable and nurturing environment to prevent crises – such as addiction.

At Rosecrance, we offer countless education opportunities and would love to find the best fit for you and your loved ones. Follow this link to explore upcoming training or contact the Prevention Team Supervisor, Haley Dziedzic, to schedule a training that fits your schedule.

Today, our Little Inspirations Daycare hosted their very own Daycare Olympics! From obstacle courses to timed challenges, our kids showed determination, courage, and so much joy. 🏅

These moments are more than just fun. They’re part of creating a safe, nurturing community where children can grow, laugh, and just be kids, while their mothers focus on healing and rebuilding their lives.

We are proud to be the only Women and Children’s Center in our area with a licensed daycare, because true support means caring for both mother and child. When children are safe and supported, hope grows stronger for the whole family.

This is what community looks like. This is what hope looks like. 💛

On February 12, 2026, our residential clients showcased their creativity at our Therapeutic Recreation “Heart Art” Show — a pop art journey centered on the theme Healing Through the Heart.

Through bold colors, layered textures, and personal symbolism, participants explored what healing means to them. For many, art provides a powerful way to process emotions, build confidence, and reconnect with joy during recovery.

Therapeutic Recreation is more than an activity. It strengthens coping skills, encourages healthy expression, builds community, and reminds our clients that recovery includes rediscovering creativity and hope.

We are incredibly proud of the courage and talent displayed in each piece. ❤️

Recovery is not just about what we leave behind — it’s also about what we create moving forward.

We’re celebrating 50 years of impact — and bringing a legend with us.

Join us for Life’s Waiting: A Night of Hope & Giving as we celebrate 50 years of Rosecrance Jackson Centers serving individuals and families across our region.

We’re honored to welcome Pro Football Hall of Famer Cris Carter as our special guest speaker.

Cris Carter is a former NFL wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, and Miami Dolphins. Over his sixteen-season career (1987–2002), he was named to eight Pro Bowls, was twice named first-team All-Pro, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

But beyond the accolades, Cris Carter will share something even more powerful — his story of addiction, recovery, accountability, and resilience.

This evening is so much more than football.
It’s about hope.
It’s about second chances.
It’s about ensuring that when someone is ready for help, care is there.

The heart of Little Inspirations Daycare is the incredible team behind it!

Located within our Women’s & Children’s Center, Little Inspirations provides licensed, high-quality childcare for the children who reside with their mothers receiving residential treatment there. Every day, this team creates a safe, nurturing, and structured environment so mothers can focus on their recovery, knowing their children are cared for with compassion and consistency.

Our daycare staff understand that many of the children in our care have been impacted by addiction and trauma. They create consistent, structured, and loving environments that help children feel secure while their mothers engage in treatment.

✨ Michell Olivares, 1 year of service
✨ Mindy Mahlberg, 13 years of dedicated service

Next week, the team will attend "Shaping Young Hearts and Minds: Trauma-Informed Care in Early Childhood" through the Area Education Association. This training will strengthen their ability to understand how trauma affects children’s learning and behavior and equip them with practical strategies to foster emotional regulation, trust, and resilience.

We are grateful for staff who continue to grow, learn, and invest in the well-being of the children and families we serve. Strong families start with strong support. Thank you for caring for our Little Inspirations!
