Today is National Rainbow Baby Day!

Do you know what a rainbow baby is?

Miscarriage is not necessarily becoming more common, but more women today are given permission to speak about their miscarriage or stillborn children.

At Ashwood FertilityCare Center, we have the honor of being a part of a multitude of families overcoming miscarriage and carrying future babies to term.

A rainbow baby is a name coined for a healthy baby born after losing a baby due to miscarriage, infant loss, stillbirth, or neonatal death. The name β€œrainbow baby” comes from the idea of a rainbow appearing in the sky after a storm, or after a dark and turbulent time.

Kari Beadner, CFCP, CBD (cbi) shares:

"When we lost our daughter, Ashley, due to miscarriage, it was an extremely traumatic time in our lives. It was at this time that I joined the "club" of Bereaved Mothers who survive their babies. I never imagined being a part of this group but here I was and I was able to grieve with our Ashwood clients moving forward who have endured this terrible loss as well.

I miscarried on February 6, 2016, and then, with the support of NaPro Technology, gave birth to our Rainbow Baby, Wyatt, on May 19, 2017.

Wyatt is such a gracious gift. I realize that not every bereaved mother is gifted a Rainbow Baby but I live out my gratitude through Wyatt's life.

I know I'm not alone in my story of the challenge of bonding with my baby. Many bereaved mothers may feel guilty about these challenges; so I share my story to encourage others that, in fact, carrying a Rainbow Baby is one of the bravest things a bereaved mother can do!

Not only do I have a Rainbow baby, but I'm also a Rainbow Baby, myself!"

If you have not experienced loss, I'm sure you know someone who has. Take the reminder of this special day to reach out to families who have experienced loss, whether they have received a Rainbow Baby or not.

There are 4 parts of our ovulation cycle that you can think of like seasons. As we learn how to appreciate our fertility we begin to observe the different needs of our body during each season!
Let's continue...

Week 3: Summer - The third part and main event of our ovulation cycle is the Ovulation Phase. The Summer Phase is when things begin to heat up – literally and metaphorically.

A woman with a 28-day cycle may ovulate on the 14th day, though some will ovulate a bit earlier or later. Most care providers will assume all women ovulate on day 14 when in fact only 13% of women ovulate on day 14.

During the summer phase or mother phase, a woman’s energy is more expressive and outward. She may feel more social, and this is a great time to focus on community building, nurturing relationships, hosting, cooking or being of service to others.

Summer, is the most enjoyable time for taking care of children, offering friends support and having s*x to achieve pregnancy. Oh, and by the way, some research suggests that ovulation is the best time to ask for what you want – whether that be from your partner, or asking for a raise at work.

During your "Summer Phase" what activities do you enjoy most?

If you are in a time of avoiding pregnancy what activities do you enjoy during this time knowing your natural fertility and that your body is working hard for you as your follicle is producing high levels of Estrogen preparing for optimal ovulation?

Women observe cervical mucus during this time showing the woman that ovulation is on its way. How do these observations make you feel?

Disgust?
Appreciation?
Excitement?
Depression?

When we have a good understanding of our fertility and knowledge about the goodness of our body we can learn to appreciate the health of ovulation in seasons of Singleness, and Avoiding or Achieving pregnancy. We can appreciate that good healthy ovulation is the fifth vital sign for women.

There are 4 parts of our ovulation cycle that you can think of like seasons. As we learn how to appreciate our fertility we begin to observe the different needs of our body during each season!

Let's continue

Week 2: Spring - The second part of our menstrual cycle is the Pre-Ovulatory Phase as the body begins its journey towards ovulation. This phase can be a variable-length each cycle. Many things affect the length of the pre-ovulatory phase including stress. We enjoy teaching our clients about how stress in this phase can actually delay your ovulation in so making your total cycle days longer.
Think rebirth, renew, fresh-start, cleansed, energized and happy. As a woman moves into her "Spring Phase", she’s ready to get back into the world slowly and take on new projects, start planning and organizing her month. Spring is a re-emerging after a period of hibernation from the world. During this phase, the hormone estradiol (an estrogen) is rising and energy levels start making a come back. This is an optimal time to dedicate focused time to projects, reading and researching, learning, and performing physical tasks. You might find this is the best time to move, or to take on a challenge.
During your "Spring Phase" what new insight or projects are you interested in? Do you find this to be true? Are you more interested in planning and feel more energy to take on new tasks?

How does your pre-ovulatory phase make you feel? When you think about a little egg being chosen to grow in a follicle and growing and making its way towards ovulation what do you feel? When you begin to observe the cervical mucus that is produced in response to the rise in Estrogen what do you feel?
Disgust?
Appreciation?
Excitement?
Depression?
When we have a good understanding of our fertility and knowledge about the goodness of our body we can learn to appreciate the rebirth, renew, fresh start, season of Spring in our ovulation cycle.
Let's learn more together!
