Today is National Rainbow Baby Day!
Do you know what a rainbow baby is?
Miscarriage is not necessarily becoming more common, but more women today are given permission to speak about their miscarriage or stillborn children.
At Ashwood FertilityCare Center, we have the honor of being a part of a multitude of families overcoming miscarriage and carrying future babies to term.
A rainbow baby is a name coined for a healthy baby born after losing a baby due to miscarriage, infant loss, stillbirth, or neonatal death. The name βrainbow babyβ comes from the idea of a rainbow appearing in the sky after a storm, or after a dark and turbulent time.
Kari Beadner, CFCP, CBD (cbi) shares:
"When we lost our daughter, Ashley, due to miscarriage, it was an extremely traumatic time in our lives. It was at this time that I joined the "club" of Bereaved Mothers who survive their babies. I never imagined being a part of this group but here I was and I was able to grieve with our Ashwood clients moving forward who have endured this terrible loss as well.
I miscarried on February 6, 2016, and then, with the support of NaPro Technology, gave birth to our Rainbow Baby, Wyatt, on May 19, 2017.
Wyatt is such a gracious gift. I realize that not every bereaved mother is gifted a Rainbow Baby but I live out my gratitude through Wyatt's life.
I know I'm not alone in my story of the challenge of bonding with my baby. Many bereaved mothers may feel guilty about these challenges; so I share my story to encourage others that, in fact, carrying a Rainbow Baby is one of the bravest things a bereaved mother can do!
Not only do I have a Rainbow baby, but I'm also a Rainbow Baby, myself!"
If you have not experienced loss, I'm sure you know someone who has. Take the reminder of this special day to reach out to families who have experienced loss, whether they have received a Rainbow Baby or not.
