Sunrise Retirement Community

Sunrise Retirement Community Founded in 1959, Sunrise Retirement Community is located on east side of Sioux City. Our Mission
Caring deeply. Connecting daily. Leading boldly.

Siouxland's only community-based not-for-profit senior living community providing the entire care continuum. Serving faithfully. Our Vision
Forward-thinking and person-centered, Sunrise Retirement Community will be recognized as Siouxland’s highest quality, most active and comprehensive senior living community of choice. Philosophy of Care
At Sunrise Retirement, we’re proud of our resident-centered care philosophy. It’s an approach that zeroes in on individual needs and ensures "freedom of choice" for our residents. Essentially, it means strive to be more inviting (and less institutional) in today’s world of senior care. We urge residents to enjoy more independence, privacy, and flexibility in their daily lives — and we provide each resident with what works best for him or her. Sunrise has also embraced the Eden approach, which connects residents with children, pets, and green space to enhance their quality of life. Not-For-Profit Organization
As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, we continually invest our resources and any annual revenue back into care and services for our residents. Sunrise Retirement is funded through Medicare and Medicaid, third party sources, and private payment. We also welcome monetary and volunteer contributions from those interested in supporting Sunrise. Nondiscrimination Statement
With regard to admission, participation, or employment practices, Sunrise Retirement Community does not exclude, deny benefits to, or otherwise discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability, or age.

Check out this adorable Valentine’s Day tree located in the link between our Memory Care neighborhoods! ❤️
Our seniors, their families, and our staff are invited to create a scratch-design heart to hang on the tree—sharing love, creativity, and sweet messages throughout the season. It’s a beautiful reminder of the connections that make our community so special.

We love the cardinal tree our Wellness Director Lisa put up!
Did you know cardinals symbolize life, energy, passion, and strength—even in winter—making them a beautiful reminder of resilience and perseverance?

They can also represent a loved one who has passed. Many believe cardinals appear as a sign that someone you love is near, watching over you, or sending comfort.

What a perfect visual to inspire us through winter!

Our Nursing staff, with the support of our entire team, proved that when they put their minds to it, there is nothing that can stop them. In partnership with our therapy team, they reduced falls in our Health Center by 28% this year! Their innovation, attention to detail, and dedication to our residents made this incredible achievement possible.

Today, we say goodbye to more than just 2025—we say goodbye to two incredible members of our Sunrise family.

Darvene has been a cherished part of our housekeeping team for the past 13 years. She brought a true heart for our seniors into everything she did, and we are deeply grateful for her years of dedication, kindness, and care.

We also say farewell to Chaplain Jon, who has been part of the Sunrise family on and off since 2009. His infectious laughter, love of music, and good humor will be greatly missed by residents and staff alike.

We thank you both for the lasting impact you’ve made at Sunrise and wish you nothing but the very best in a well-deserved retirement.

✨ “Be the light in someone’s day.” ✨

Chaplain Jon is retiring, and we are grateful for the compassion, wisdom, and care he has shared with our Sunrise community. As we celebrate his impact, we are also looking ahead to welcome someone new to continue this meaningful ministry.

Sunrise is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Chaplain to provide spiritual and emotional support to residents, families, and staff across our Nursing, Assisted Living, and Independent Living communities.

This is a wonderful opportunity to serve seniors through faith, ministry, presence, and connection—to walk alongside others during moments of joy, reflection, and need.

Part-time position
Approximately 20–25 hours per week

If you—or someone you know—feel called to make a difference and be a source of comfort and hope, we would love to hear from you.
