Things we need to normalize more as a society:

-Talking about mental health
-Going to therapy
-Taking medications for mental illness
-Asking for help
-Not having to explain yourself
-Not wanting to drink at gatherings
-Saying no without feeling sorry for it
-Eating or going out alone

One day

we'll ache

to jump back into the photos

we'll take this Christmas.

Back in time.

Back with our people,

just as they are

this very day.

Back...

with those we've lost,

with the children
while they were still children,

in that room,
in that moment,
with those who hold the biggest space
in our heart.

So let's breathe in the calm.

Shake off our angst.

Let the little upsets,
just stay little.

May we replace our striving for perfection,
with connection.

And focus

on the details of our people -

the sound of dad's laugh, the way the baby's lashes flutter as they drift to sleep, the 7 year old's toothless grin, the teenage cousins playing cards with grandma, the feel of holding hands, the taste of your sister’s cookies, mom's all knowing look and even better - her hug.

May we enjoy the memories -

WHILE we're making them.

Because one day

we'll ache

to jump back into the photos

we'll take this Christmas.
