Glory House provides programs that are responsive to the unique and collective needs of individuals, families, and the community. Programs focus on solving problems due to substance abuse, irresponsible thinking patterns, or criminal offenses to the community. Programs develop life skills, problem solving skills, and positive habits, helping individuals and families. Restoration of relationships occurs when offenders participate in programs such as restitution payments, community service, and victim reconciliation. Glory House works cooperatively with other community programs that provide opportunities for offenders to be accountable. Prosocial behavior is encouraged through individual and group counseling, "care-frontation," spiritual exploration, chemical dependency continuing care, employment, and community service. Individuals are encouraged to make responsible choices which foster healthy independent community living. Participants in Glory House programs represent an array of cultures, personalities, attitudes, and beliefs. It is believed that each individual is of unique value and worth and deserves to be treated with dignity. Considering each person's background and needs, individual plans facilitate the development of spiritual and prosocial community values and behavior. After participation in Glory House programs, individuals will be better prepared to lead a balanced and accountable lifestyle. This lifestyle will be demonstrated through constructive life skills, spiritual awareness, healthy relationships, a life of sobriety, use of support systems, financial independence, respect for authority, and freedom from crime. NARCAN is a life saving drug that can rapidly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and anyone can have access to it. It is free and easy for anyone to administer and because of this drug our nation is seeing a decrease in overdose deaths. One concern people may have; what will happen if I administer NARCAN to someone who is not overdosing? Nothing! It will not hurt them in any way.
Check out Emily's Hope website for locations where you can pick it up.

Holy moly, another giant round of August Anniversaries!

Allison has been with Glory House for 7 years! We see her more in the summer when she has time off from her full time job. What does she do around here? Everything that needs to be done that there is no one else assigned to do. She is also great at pulling weeds, if needed. Congrats, Allison!

Counselor Alexis is celebrating 4 years! When we have a client who really needs to get down to the basics, slow down and learn some skills, Alexis is our gal. She is like a unicorn riding a rainbow surrounded by sunshine and also the silliest goose. Thanks for being here!

Shelby completed her first year in the CST department. She shows so much compassion for helping and is good at showing out clients how to have some fun. We love the joy and passion you bring your job. We are so happy to have you!

We were able to catch up with Lexi, a Glory House alumni from 2020! She shared a picture of herself in active addiction and another now that she is sober. Looks like she go the light back in her eyes!

What have you been up to since you left Glory House?
I left the Glory House in approximately April of 2021. Since then, I have found a special love for doing service work! Currently, I volunteer for two organizations. I am the Event Coordinator for MadylynnBrave, a public nonprofit charity. Our mission is to empower children, motivate change, and inspire bravery in the face of chronic conditions and life-changing diagnoses. I also volunteer as an Outreach Liaison and Case Manager for a women's ministry shelter called House of Boaz. Our church's mission is to Love God and Love People. House of Boaz is a direct ministry of that mission. Glory House had a HUGE impact on my life and sobriety. I have been clean since October of 2020. I like to share my story to other addicts at treatment centers and halfway houses during my free time. WE DO RECOVER!

What is your advice to people in similar situations?
Surround yourself with people and God. When I was dropped off at Glory House in 2020 after leaving Keystone, I never planned on staying clean. I wanted to do my time and get back to getting high. Somewhere along the way, I found a couple of pastors that changed my life. I surrounded myself with people and stayed busy. Jesus became my friend and with that, I eventually realized that life was much better being clean. My worst day clean is better than my best day on m**h. I was a mess of an addict.
If I can get clean, you can recover too.

Thanks for sharing your story, Lexi!

Sober Staff Story!
Let's hear from another one our staff that have made helping others a part of their sobriety journey.

How long have you been in recovery?
Since 5/5/05
What made you decide to quit?
My family gave me an ultimatum to either quit or lose my 2.5 yr old son. When in treatment, I found out I was pregnant with my second child. I still wasn't sold on staying quit, but during those 9 months of being pregnant, I went to meetings practically daily and I decided that I wanted what everyone else had, so I got a sponsor.
Who is a person in your life that helped you in your recovery journey?
Other than my sponsor(s), my parents. They were both in recovery themselves so were an amazing support to me. Now, my sponcee's have helped a lot b/c I can't recommend som**hing to them that I am unwilling to do myself.
Why did you decide to work at Glory House?
Well, it's my third time back so that should tell you how awesome it is to work here. 😁 This time around, coming back as a manager for the frontline staff as someone who had been frontline staff in the past; I wanted to try to be a safe place for not only the clients, but my staff. I wanted to pour into their cups so that they would be able to pour into the client's cups. I wanted (and still do!) everyone to be able to see their full potential as amazing human beings.
What is your advice to people thinking about getting sober?
Will it be scary? Yes! Will is be hard? Yes! But on the other side of that is becoming the person you were always meant to be. All good things require work & a little courage. I once heard that recovery is like playing a country song backwards; you get everything you lost back! It might take some time and will probably happen in ways you don't expect but, but miracles do happen. We can & do recover!

Our Activities Coordinator mixes in a lot of volunteer opportunities throughout the month. One of our favorite places to volunteer is Greater Goods. It's a fun experience and sometimes you find a pretty princess tent to hang out in! 👑

There can be many reasons why a person relapses, but rarely is it because they don't care. Relapses are a way of communicating a need that isn't being met or a pain that isn't being addressed.
When someone is struggling with relapse, instead of asking "what's wrong" we can ask "what's strong" to learn their strengths and how we can build on them to help them live better.

August is a big month for staff anniversaries!

Angela is rocking her 26th year! She runs around our campus checking tasks off her list left and right and then types her documentation with enthusiasm and speed. She is a Glory House staple and a friendly, familiar face to the clients we serve. Congrats!

Kristy has been casually managing 100 clients accounts and making sure our staff and bills get paid for 15 years! Fun fact, when she started working here, she had a family member on our Board of Directors, so she famously became known as Kristy The Spy. 😂 We now know she just works here because she cares about people and she is good at math. Thanks for the memories and the money, Kristy!

Amanda celebrates her 2nd years in the CST department! She always has a smile on her face and encouragement to share with staff and clients. She truly cares about our clients happiness and isn't afraid to get a little silly. We are so happy to have you!

Ayele has survived and thrived through his second year in the counseling department! If you want to understand the science of addiction, he is your guy! He is encouraging, knowledgeable and a great advocate for his clients. We are thankful you are here!
