🤝 United for healing, The Compass Center, Family Service Inc., and Move to Heal are coming together under one roof to better serve our community at our new location at 49th & Western.

This partnership unites:

▫️The Compass Center's specialized crisis counseling and 24/7 response services for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence
▫️Family Services Inc.'s comprehensive therapeutic support for children, youth, and families, plus Employee Assistance Programs
▫️Move to Heal's innovative movement-based healing approaches for trauma recovery

All services remain committed to no-cost and low-cost care on a sliding fee scale. Join us October 9th for our big celebration where we'll reveal our new name and introduce our dedicated Board of Directors!

"We will be there to listen and guide you along the way for whatever makes sense for your situation."

In eastern South Dakota, finding mental health support and healing can be found under a new group, as several organizations complete their merger and locate under one roof.

This is the story of one of our clients:

"Therapy was my lifeline, but accessing it was a struggle. I often borrowed money or walked miles to make appointments, sometimes canceling when it became too overwhelming. While therapy provided me with strength and tools to heal, it’s heartbreaking to know many miss out simply because they can’t get there. Transportation shouldn’t be a barrier to mental health care."

Help us change this!

This is the story of one of our clients. There are so many others in our community who are braving impossible circumstances to access therapy, and some are forced to give up entirely.

"I was desperate to attend therapy, but getting there was an overwhelming challenge. There were days when I scraped together just enough for a bus ticket, only to miss my session because the route was delayed. Other times, I walked miles in the heat or freezing cold because I didn't have the funds for transportation.
The stress of finding a way to get to therapy only added to my mental health struggles. Some weeks, I just couldn't do it. I felt defeated, isolated, and ashamed that something as simple as transportation was standing in the way of the help I needed.
When I could make it to therapy, it was life-changing. Those sessions gave me tools to cope and hope to keep going. But too often, I couldn't attend because I lacked the resources to get there. Accessing therapy shouldn't be this hard"

Your support can break down this barrier and ensure no one has to choose between their mental health and the cost of getting there.

Help us fund transportation assistance for clients like this one and make mental health care accessible for everyone.

We were thrilled to have our team participate in the Racial Healing discussion panel with the USD - LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities) fellowship interdisciplinary program on October 24th!
During the panel, Erika Warren, CSW-PIP, FSI's Clinical Manager, shared her insights from her 10 years of experience working as a trauma flight paramedic on the Navajo Nation reservation and her 15 years within the social work field working with diverse communities. Kiana Campbell, LPC-supervisee, ASL counselor, also joined the panel to discuss her industry insights and personal career journey related to working with Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.
Erika and Kiana were honored to participate in this discussion panel and having the opportunity to answer thoughtful questions from tomorrow's leaders. A big thank you to Kishwar Shaikh, FSI intern & USD social work graduate student, for organizing and facilitating the panel! 💡✨
