We wanted to share some kind words from one of our friends at Sanford to bring some good vibes into the holiday weekend:

Since the opening of Owen's Outfitters, the Sanford Sioux Falls Health Guides have relied on them to serve some of our most underprivileged patients. The Legacy Foundation and Owen's Outfitters have been an incredible blessing, helping us secure a wide range of essential products for patients who otherwise couldn’t afford them. We were honored and delighted to help out with the first year of Give Kids the Woods at Camp Leif Ericson. It was amazing and we're already looking forward to next year!

🌲 This week, Camp Leif Ericson hosted our very first Give Kids the Woods, an adaptive outdoor experience for kids with disabilities and it was filled with joy, courage, and connection!

Campers explored sensory trails, played adaptive soccer, conquered a modified ropes course, and even took aim with adapted BB guns, proving that adventure belongs to everyone. With quiet spaces, ASL interpreters, medical supports, and adaptive equipment, we created an environment where children could feel safe, supported, and celebrated.

As we welcomed campers with a wide range of abilities, we also encountered moments that challenged our team. This was a learning experience for us, and we’re committed to growing our capacity and doing even better next year.

One camper left saying, “Yesterday was the best day ever. I had so much fun.” 💚

To all the families, partners, donors, and staff who helped us build this foundation: thank you. This was just the beginning!

Jeanette J is one of our most consistent and hardworking volunteers. She was recently recognized by her co-workers for her role in assisting with coordination of the services between Avera Prince of Peace and Owen's Outfitters. On Day Six of our Week of Gratitude, we salute ALL of the wonderful volunteers that have worked tirelessly to get us where we are.

We had folks join us just because they saw our story in the media and thought our program sounded cool (it is 😎), come along in groups of friends or colleagues (looking at you Kore Cares, DakotAbilities, Health Connect of South Dakota, and Wheelchair Adventures), and even come for the workout! We also have our long-term volunteers who show up even when the weather sucks or the work that day seems dull (inventory management is thrilling for only so long). We salute all of you! You’re the best of the best and we promise to pay it all forward. 💕

Day Four of our Week of Gratitude

Thank you to sammonsfinancialgroup, Helpline Center, and Glory House for bringing such incredible groups of volunteers last week! They replaced carpet, painted walls, washed and scrubbed everything in sight, assembled warehouse shelving, and moved all our inventory and furniture over to our new place. We are so lucky to have an awesome community around us. 🤩
