The end of the school year can bring a lot of emotions for kids.. excitement, sadness, relief, nervousness, and everything in between. ☀️

As routines change and summer begins, children often benefit from extra connection, predictability, rest, and play. Small moments of presence and support can help ease the transition and create a sense of safety through change. 🌈

Whether your summer is full of camps and activities or slower days at home, remember:
✨ connection matters more than perfection.

Motherhood doesn’t look just one way, and love doesn’t grow just one way either.

Today we celebrate all the caregivers, nurturers, and steady hands that help little ones grow. 🌱

We’re loving the fresh look of our office thanks to these beautiful new window paintings (thank you, Trina!)! ✨
They add such a fun, welcoming touch for the kids and families we serve. Be sure to check them out next time you stop by!

Messy. Loud. Chaotic.

That’s play.

And it’s how kids learn to solve problems, handle frustration, build relationships, and grow confidence.

Play isn’t extra, it’s essential.

So when the toys take over your living room… remember: play is learning 🌟

🌱 Sprout is grateful to have Emily serving as Board President for the South Dakota Association for Play Therapy. Her steady leadership and care for the play therapy community continue to support meaningful work with children and families. Take a moment to get to know her a little more. 💛

Meet your SDAPT Board President, Emily Gislason, PhD, LPC-MH, RPT-S™, QMHP, NCC, Certified Synergetic Play Therapist!

Emily has held the role of treasurer for the last few years. Last year, she held the role of Vice President and this year she has taken on the role of President and Treasurer (because she has done such a great job as Treasurer that we didn't want to lose her this year!).

Emily is a RPT-S™, primarily working with children impacted by trauma, anxiety, depression, and adjustment challenges. She provides clinical supervision for those working towards LPC, LPC-MH and RPT™. She also teaches play therapy courses for some local universities.

When asked, what is one thing you wish that people knew about play therapy, Emily said " I wish that others knew how remarkable play therapy can truly be. It is more than just playing and engaging with fun toys. As play therapists, we are witnessing growth at such a personal level."

This time of year can bring a little extra pressure for kids.

There are so many ways they’re asked to measure up.

Grades. Performance. Behavior. Expectations.

But so much of who they are can’t be captured in any of those things.

Their creativity.
Their curiosity.
The way they think, feel, and experience the world.

If your child is in a season where things feel hard or heavy, here’s your reminder:

They are growing in ways that don’t always show up on paper.

And that growth still matters.
