SB 233:
• Protects independent medical practices
• Preserves patient choice
• Stops insurer penalties and payment cuts
• Keeps care local, especially in rural communities

SDSMA members: Tell your state senator to vote YES on SB 233. If large insurance companies create policies that penalize hospitals for using an out-of-network provider, patients will see delays in necessary treatment, higher healthcare costs will be passed down to patients to make up for the penalties and additional administrative burden, and patients will lose access and choice.

South Dakota legislators must act now to protect patients and independent medical practices. SB 233 stops unfair insurance billing tactics and keeps medical decisions where they belong — between patients and their care teams.

Promoting the improvement of government through the active participation of physicians. The PAC supports candidates who understand and embrace our philosophy and vision for the future of healthcare.

Medicare reimbursements are failing to keep pace with the costs of care and inflation. This gap is fueling the doctor shortage in South Dakota, especially in rural areas, putting access to care in many of our communities at risk. It's time for Congress to move past temporary fixes and develop a long-term solution to reform the Medicare payment system. Read SDSMA President Dr. Keith Hansen's column in South Dakota Searchlight about why Congress must act now.

Insufficient Medicare payments have forced too many physicians to make heartbreaking decisions. Some have had to stop accepting new Medicare patients.
