🤔 Planning on coming to our Student Info Sheet Canva Workshop this Saturday and wondering how to prepare? This is the post for you!

We recommend you come with the following prepared:

📸 A clear photo of just your child

🪪 Basic information such as birthday, family members, allergies, an overview of any diagnoses and how they impact your child's daily life.

⭐ A fun "About Me" blurb that highlights what makes your child unique! Talk about their special interests.

💙 Brainstorm your child's strengths, weaknesses, best motivators, preferred learning styles, and any behavior that you would like them to be prepared to address, and how you've found it's best resolved in your experience.

🎒 Any other important (or anecdotal information) that will help your child's teacher best support and know your child as a unique individual.

⭐ Meet Nadene Fishback! Nadene is one of our co-founders and is currently serving on the board as both Vice President and Treasurer.

💙 As a founding Fun & Friends board member, Nadene has poured not only her heart and soul into the organization, but also all of her strengths and talents--which might just be the secret of our success! We are so thankful for all of the time, brain power and care she devotes to building a community, and then supporting it, through our organization. We quite literally wouldn't exist without her!

🎤 Learn more about Nadene in her own words: "We’re so glad you’re here. I live in Brandon, SD with my husband and two boys. Our youngest surprised us with a birth diagnosis of Down syndrome. As soon as we could, we started reaching out to make connections with the community. I hope to meet you soon!"

🚌 We can't believe school is right around the corner, and we are so excited for our upcoming Student Info Sheet Canva Workshop!

🤔 What is a "Student Info Sheet?"

A student information sheet is a fun way to convey important information about your child with a disability in a simple, effective and endearing format. They can help teachers, therapists, and other school staff understand the student's needs and how to best support them as an individual. It typically includes details about the student's strengths, areas of struggle, learning preferences, areas of interest, best motivators and some personal tidbits.

Distributing these sheets can help facilitate casual communication with staff members, promotes inclusion by ensuring that your student feels understood and valued and can enhance collaboration between teachers, parents, and other professionals involved in the student's education.

📄Maybe you've made an info sheet in the past that needs updating, or maybe you've always wondered how people made those cute info sheets for their child's teachers in the first place. Either way, we can help you!

💻 Bring your laptop, Chromebook, or just your smartphone and we can help you fill in a template, or get creative and start from scratch--all using Canva. We will be able to use the library's printers and will have a laminator for everyone's use as well!

🍎 This FREE event is intended to be for adults only. We will be providing refreshments.

📚We will be meeting at the Downtown Library, Meeting Room B, on Saturday August 16th from 9am to noon.

📣 We are ONE WEEK away from the return of our Fun & Friends Jr. open gym!

💙 You can join us for our ⛅ Fun & Friends Jr. August Meetup next Sunday (August 10th) from 2:30-4:30pm in the Special Olympics South Dakota gym for some FREE indoor play, refreshments and a wonderful opportunity to meet other families in the community.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 This event is open to any family who has a child between the ages of 0-12 who has a disability, rare disease, genetic condition, or who is on the spectrum. Please feel free to help us spread the word and invite anyone who you think could benefit from this program--the more the merrier!

Our friends at The Accessible IEP have a great event coming up in two weeks, and we LOVE that it's FREE for families to attend 😁

The Accessible IEP is hosting an IEP workshop for parents on Friday, August 15th. This event is being held at the Special Olympics Gym, is FREE to attend and includes refreshments. Bring your IEP concerns and questions and get some answers and advice.

📣 Calling all moms: tonight is our Fun & Friends' Moms Night Out event!

🌺 Moms who have a child (of any age) with a disability, rare disease, genetic condition or who is on the spectrum, you're invited to join us for a fun and casual night out, without our kiddos, at Remedy Brewing Co. in downtown Sioux Falls.

🥨 Fun & Friends will provide appetizers for the table and moms are welcome to purchase their own drinks or entrees if desired. We will plan to sit on the patio!

📣 It's about time to reintroduce the Fun & Friends board members! First in the spotlight is our Secretary, Kelly Konechne!

💙 Kelly is a founding member of the Fun & Friends board; she joined us just as we began the process to become an official 501c3 nonprofit organization. Beyond being friendly, kind and insightful, Kelly brings a levelheaded, down to earth approach to our organization that has served us incredibly well. We are so thankful to have her on the team!

"My husband Chris and have 4 kids and live in rural SW Minnesota. Having 2 boys with disabilities, we've learned the power of connecting with others and fostering relationships. We love meeting new people, building community, and providing others an opportunity to do the same, even when they live in the boonies."
