Hiring: Mental Health & Addictions Therapist

Position Overview:
Join a client-centered and collaborative team at Bartels Counseling Services, Inc., providing outpatient therapy to individuals, couples, and families. This role supports clients experiencing a wide range of concerns including mental health disorders, substance use, trauma, anxiety, depression, and attention/focus challenges. Emphasizing personal accountability, healing, and growth through evidence-based and trauma-informed practices, this position offers a flexible work environment with services delivered both on-site and via telehealth. Key Responsibilities and Core Competencies:
Provide outpatient therapy to individuals, couples, and families experiencing a wide range of concerns including trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and co-occurring conditions. Services include Integrated Mental Health Assessment, Outpatient Therapy, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and Aftercare. Clinicians develop and implement individualized, strengths-based treatment plans tailored to clinical goals using evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based strategies, motivational interviewing, and cognitive restructuring techniques.
Support clients in developing insight, building emotional regulation skills, and improving focus, motivation, and overall functioning. Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in accordance with ethical and licensing standards. Collaborate with community programs and referral sources to ensure integrated care and support long-term recovery and wellness.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate the following knowledge and abilities:
• Strong understanding of the psychological, behavioral, and physiological effects of trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, addiction, and co-occurring disorders
• Competency in applying evidence-based treatment models across the lifespan, with particular focus on mood regulation, attention/focus, and behavioral health
• Ability to develop adaptive treatment plans that evolve with client needs and clinical progress
• Skilled in using assessment tools, interpreting clinical data, and making sound therapeutic decisions
• Capacity to establish therapeutic rapport, create a safe and validating environment, and engage clients in meaningful change
• Proficient in collaborating with colleagues, families, and external providers to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field
• Licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and eligibility for LPC-MH (Licensed Professional Counselor – Mental Health) through the South Dakota Board of Counselor Examiners
• Licensed or eligible as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) or Addiction Counselor Trainee (ACT) through the South Dakota Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals
