Thank you to those of you that joined us for our ribbon cutting over the weekend. We would love to see you again at our next event this Sunday, Dec 21st for winter solstice and National Homeless Persons Memorial Day.

Winter solstice is the shortest day of the year and the longest night. It is also a day of hope because we know that every day after the solstice will have more light than the one before. Which is why it is an apt fit that every year on the Winter Solstice, we honor National Homeless Persons Memorial Day. We remember those who have lost their lives while experiencing homelessness and we look forward in hope to what can be when we care for and provide opportunities for all our neighbors.

This year, we will be commemorating and remembering this day by gathering as a community for a walk/run through totem park!

Registration will begin at 12:30pm on Sunday Dec 21st at the Mill Building of the Science Center. Registration is a suggested donation of $25 but is also a pay what you can/sliding scale to participate!

The run/walk will begin at 1pm. There will be soup and hot drinks in the Mill Building to enjoy until 3pm.

We will have purple and white ribbons for folks to wear in honor of loved ones who passed away while experiencing homelessness.

We are looking forward to this event and we hope you join us! See you Sunday!

A record-breaking year for Fish to Schools!

Aatlein gunalchĂ©esh to Shee AtikĂĄ, whose donation of 3,600 lbs of sockeye made this milestone possible. This is the first time sockeye salmon has ever been served through Fish to Schools—bringing even more culturally meaningful, nutrient-rich, local foods to students in the Sitka School District and at Mt. Edgecumbe High School.

Shee Atiká’s generosity allows us to increase the frequency of local fish meals on the school lunch menus and strengthens the connection between youth and the land and waters that sustain our community.

Together, we’re ensuring Sitka’s kids have access to food that is healthy and rooted in place!
