Everything's turning up green at the Lois Lloyd Center! Michael, Diane and their friends have been working on St. Patrick's Day art projects like this mural during the month. They decided where to place shamrocks to highlight the big pot of gold. Glenn Tatsui, Direct Support Professional, stands with Michael and Diane in front of the finished mural. They all wore green hats to highlight the upcoming holiday.

We love DSPs! Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the backbone of Shore and other human service providers. They provide hands-on instruction in areas of daily living skills, employment, independence and so much more. On Tuesday, Angela Adefioye, HR Manager, and Regina Miller, DSP/House Supervisor, did a presentation at Oakton College for students who are obtaining certification to become a DSP. We wish them luck and thank Oakton College for the opportunity to share insight on this rewarding career.

75 Years - One Brilliant Story

Throughout our anniversary year, we’ll be highlighting important “chapters” of this story that make up the rich history and legacy of Shore Community Services, and our community’s commitment to inclusion over 75 years!

This week’s chapter features the United Way of Evanston as an important early funding partner. In 1980, Shore School and Training Center was selected to benefit from the annual community services fund drive. That year, the goal was to raise $269,000 to support 18 local agencies.

Today, the United Way still operates a “Neighborhood Network” in Evanston, and is still focused on the success of youth throughout their educational and transition years.
