Last weekend we were in the big city, Portland for the fall conference of the MCA. The featured speaker was from New Zealand! The place was packed. Docs from all over northern New England came to the event. Dr. Haavik is both a chiropractor and PhD neuroscientist. She has a 35 person research team of other scientists working with her at New Zealand's chiro school in Auckland. The least expensive studies she does cost $200,000. Besides her overview of research she is doing she was a flat out, highly animated stand-up comic in her delivery. Among the many things she said, chiropractic adjustments increased strength 16% in students, interestingly, only 6% is Olympic athletes, which could be the difference between a medal and none. In short, the whole seminar was about how adjustments improve brain function, particularly the part for higher function such as critical thinking and coordination. The point she's making to chiropractors is we all need to go back to our practices and get people into the office for adjustments to improve brain function which runs everything, allowing us to better adapt to our inner world (our bodies) and the outer world, better thinking. She said we need to get some brain models in the office to get point across about brain function. I got some stuffed animal like models already. Not sure where to put the delicate medical models. I have too much clutter at present.
