Although I personally do not believe in AA, again because the disease model claims that alcoholism is a disease and again if so? Why does one have to wait six months for a liver transplant? They should get it right away! I'm not in any way shape or form saying don't go to meetings if it HELPS you! You have to do whatever it takes to NOT drink! And if that is an AA meeting? Go for it!
I believe it's more of an individual problem and I also believe it runs in the family. Whether conditioned of what people see there parents do, or genetics. If you are at a point where you are questioning if you have a problem? Please look into your family history! Most likely there is a grandfather/Mother and uncle a cousin, and more that are or were struggling. It helps you put things in perspective and alleviates some of the shame and guilt that goes along with drinking. Please seek help! Contact us for any help you might need!

As alcohol is the most sneakiest drug...one must be careful what is a functional alcoholic and a non functional alcoholic. There is one difference...functional alcoholics can drink at night usually, go to work and function on life activities. However non functional alcoholics drink whenever, usually all day, binge, stop, repeat, etc as it depends on the person. Also non functioning alcoholics always get hangovers. Really bad hangovers. Functional ones usually do not. Emphasis on usually! But when does one crossover? It sometimes just takes a trigger, trauma, event or life itself spiraling. For example loss of job, loss of a person, loss of relationship or marriage etc. loss has a huge impact. People drink to escape as they don't have the correct or healthy coping skills to grieve or move on eventually. So, someone who is a functional alcoholic, and I had many clients who would say well I can stop whenever! Well, they have to be careful because all it takes is one traumatic event in life and the scales tip to the non functional behavior from functional. You are not exempt because you think you can "handle" it. Please be aware of your own behaviors and triggers. Please contact us if you have a problem or are even questioning that you do! Seek help as your liver can only take so much!

What happens to the body when you are a full blown alcoholic and your liver is functioning at a low level...let's say at 10%.
At this point your bilirubin is at high levels when it should be at below 0.1 it can go up to 30! Your skin turns a sickly yellow. Your eyeballs actually turn yellow. You start losing severe weight. You have to be in the ICU and hooked up to machines because you are in severe pain from your liver and now what happens is your kidneys have to do the work. But your kidneys are not made to work so hard to detoxify that's why we need our liver. So your kidneys eventually need dialysis to clean them out so they can filter whatever they can. Unfortunately they can only do so much. Dialysis stops working. Then there is nothing anyone can do. You can stay hooked up to machines but in a few days? Your heart will go...it's awful...the Doctor will tell you what to do get off machines and go peacefully and say goodbye to your loved ones or not. If you get off all machines? In one hour your belly becomes so swollen! In two hours? Your feet become swollen like balloon's and that is because your body is retaining all this water. You can not urinate because everything has stopped working. Within four hours you are now experiencing severe pain from your whole body shutting down. Then you need Morphine. That is the end as one falls asleep and that's it. It's a very very horrible way to go and tragic. Please seek help! Contact us here for help! Or refer someone you love who really is struggling.

When people are young, we all have been there! where we go out on the weekends and party it up! I sure did! I traveled and always went out clubbing. That was just a normal part of life...Fridays, Saturdays were party nights! Not all the time but most of the time. We went to clubs or lounges etc and have drinks. Sometimes we drank more than other nights. Then Monday? Back to work. Not an issue right? Well, sometimes it unfortunately gets you...and even though those party nights were just that and you never thought about alcohol during the week or at work or needed it, others struggled. Others started needing it...where it becomes a Monday night drink and so forth. Once it becomes an every evening type of drink than one must question that. But what happens is the reward system. The reward system being "I worked hard therefore I can have a drink or two or three to relax" or "Today was really stressful and I deserve to unwind". People make excuses and live in denial when deep down they know the truth. Please look deep down before it gets worse and your body unfortunately starts needing it more and more. Your tolerance levels become higher so one drink doesn't do it. Sometimes a second drink doesn't either...you don't feel that same effect as you would with one drink and need three or four to get to that point. Then you know you are in trouble. Please reach out here for help! Or refer someone who needs help and save a life! It is so important! Thank you!

When people are alcoholics they do things they normally would not do. Shame and guilt sets in. Then you drink again to forget what you did the night before questioning your own mind and not remembering what exactly happened as your memory fails you. So you have bits and pieces of what possibly occurred! So whatever it is you remember? Are things you would never participate in normally. Again the cycle begins as you feel that darkness of pain, shame, guilt, distraught and low self worth. So you drink again. Why? To forget. You drink alone at home thinking you will not participate in these things and you start loathing yourself. However the cycle begins again...you go out you have fun you say I will not become obliterated again...and yet you can't help it. The shame starts again. Vicious cycle. Please seek help!

When alcoholism gets to far...
Unfortunately Doctors might warn a patient at a regular visit that they have to cut down or stop drinking. The reason is, a simple check up! When a Doctor feels your belly? When they tap around? They are actually checking your liver as well and most importantly. I never knew this myself! The liver is on the right side of our stomach area and it is a big organ. Doctors can actually feel lumps, tenderness, sometimes the patient feels pain from the exam, overall they look for abnormalities! So then they ask the patient if they drink and/or how much. You have to be honest because they actually know. Not only based on this exam but from bloating, the color of your skin, tremors depending on how far along you are...etc
Please, do not attempt to stop on your own if you are in full blown alcoholism. It is severely dangerous! You will most definitely go into seizures, psychosis, or passing away. Please seek help and hospitalization.
I will share something personal as this page is dedicated to my brother who I love and miss so much and it was unnecessary for him to go at 47 when he surely could have been saved. Alcoholism also affects your eyes in some people they tend to get severe dark circles under there eyes and that is the liver saying something is wrong. Here is a picture of my brother and I...every time we asked him about his eyes he would say the Dr said he had a vitamin deficiency. Well this is not what a vitamin deficiency does! Please keep at it with your family member, loved one, friend or whoever is struggling...picture ⬇️ his eyes...may you Rest In Peace my brother...💔🙏🏻

Some signs of alcohol dependency are difficult to ignore. If you notice a change in behavior in a loved one whether it's a partner, friend, coworker, family member, spouse etc...there are always signs.
Some can be mood swings, irrational thought process, anger, irritability, sadness...also physically people can sometimes show bloating, redness in the face, bloodshot eyes, alcohol also comes out in your pores so a person, even though not drinking at that moment, can actually smell like alcohol.
People also hide bottles under the bed, in a closet, a cabinet, a cupboard, a pantry etc...people will go to such lengths to hide it from people they love because of shame, guilt, embarrassment...and more. Alot of people think they can drive after a few glasses of alcohol and they do not think it affects them when in fact it slows down your judgment and impairs your sense of time, space and reaction time so PLEASE do not drive even if you think you are OK and you just had a few glasses of wine for example.
Please do not suffer alone. Help is out there. Every one has different ways of coping and everyone has different reasons for drinking.
Again it's not a one size fits all type of dependency/addiction. It's personal, individualistic and therapy should be tailored to your needs! Please contact us for more information.
All information is confidential as per HIPPA policies.

Alcoholism is the most sneakiest drug and I say that because it creeps up on you so fast!
Sometimes people drink and can function in life. Others can't.
Unfortunately the alcohol dependency creeps up in ways where you feel lost and do not understand the physical symptoms!
That is where alcohol has now become attached to your body, your body and brain needs it!
You might not even want to drink and yet? You have to as those symptoms are so uncomfortable to say the least...
Some Symptoms of dependency:
Sweating during sleep
Waking up every hour while you are trying to sleep
DT The horrendous tremors which you can't avoid and a lot of my clients would have to drink to stop them due to shame in public.
Anxiety and Panic attacks
Tightness in chest
Brain fog
And more...
Please contact us for help if you are at that point! Do not suffer in silence as alcohol can destroy your life, relationships, work, family etc. ♥️🙏🏻

Drinking is always due to some trigger in life.
Stress
Depression
Anxiety
Finances
No coping skills
No tools to utilize
Relationships
Work
Work relationships or stress
Unhappiness
Existential crisis
And so so much more...
Some triggers are so complicated and some of the above overlap with others. Sometimes there are many triggers!
Look deep inside and find what is at least ONE trigger for you!
It's personal, it's difficult but it's a step in the right direction!

If you are a moderate drinker and know you have a problem, please stop drinking alone, please stop hanging out with people who drink as well and buy you drinks because drinkers like to drink with others. Unfortunately it justifies the "problem" as it not being a problem. Ask yourself this "would you hang out with these same people if you didn't drink" not judging or in a judgmental way but just a question. Because then you can clarify your reasoning as to why you are hanging out with said people! Is it because you truly have things in common, do you enjoy conversing with them? Or is it the alcohol and fun? Question that!
stay away from the same environments that make you drink and lastly figure out your triggers.
What are your triggers? Sometimes people drink due to some situation in life they want to escape from its that simple and yet so complicated.

AA believes that alcoholism is a disease. So why does one have to wait six months for a liver transplant when you have liver disease or cirrhosis of the liver?

Fact: only 10-15 percent of alcoholics will develop cirrhosis of the liver. As it's a genetic disease.
