We have been quite active lately. Some of these photographs are from last week, featuring our Bingo session with the VFW ladies, exercise routines, outdoor activities, and engaging rounds of hangman. The residents also participated in self-directed activities, and today, Lori and her granddaughters visited, and we conducted arts and crafts, creating decorative tissue paper butterflies and seashell keepsakes. Additionally, we incorporated exercises before lunch and nail care for some of the ladies this afternoon!

We have experienced a hectic schedule over the past few days. We conducted one-on-one visits, perused some stories, watched church services on television, and engaged in physical exercises. We participated in bingo, went bowling with Lori and her granddaughters, and crafted handmade Memorial Day door decorations. What a delightful time we have been having.

Yesterday, we observed Pajama Day, commencing with a morning spa day where we indulged in self-care. We enjoyed breakfast pizza for lunch, followed by preparations for a cinematic outing to watch Home on the Range. The movie was well-received by residents and staff alike, with many experiencing it for the first time. It was enlightening to gain insight into Smith County. We had a phenomenal week celebrating National Nursing Home Week and witnessing moments of bloom. Special appreciation is extended to the FFA for their visit on Friday, during which they planted flowers in our flower pots and beds; their contribution is deeply valued, and the residents are particularly fond of the flowers. Big thank you to our Residents son for playing the piano and singing to all of us. You have one very proud momma.

What a fun, busy Thursday we have had! It was Hawaiian Day here at Smith Center Health and Rehab. We started our day playing bingo. Why? Because we love it. Then, we had an amazing, authentic Hawaiian meal for lunch; everything was amazing, even the fresh pineapple on top of homemade ice cream. This afternoon, we rested after lunch and enjoyed homemade lemonade with different flavorings. It was so refreshing and yummy. All the staff and residents really enjoyed those. Then, we went outdoors for a water balloon fight and made more s’mores and read a book! Oh, what fun we had - the laughter, the water flying, and everyone coming together. Our Director of Nursing, Martha, and Nurse Sarah prepped and prepared homemade sugar cookies for residents and staff for tomorrow. Tomorrow is Pajama Day, so when you see us all in our PJs, don’t be alarmed!

Western Day was a hit! We had s’mores this morning, and those were a hit. Who doesn’t love roasting marshmallows over a fire! For lunch, we had BBQ pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and homemade ice cream! 🍨 Thank you Trenton Ringle for smoking our pork butts, we appreciate it. The residents really enjoyed that bbq and so did the staff! This afternoon, we got together for a good ol' peanut auction and nachos. Thank you Jim for being the Auctioneer today and your helper Ricky! Everyone had so much fun and was very competitive with the bidding. Big, big thank you to Lakeside Auction & Consignments out of Glen Elder, KS, for all the items donated for our auction! The residents loved everything, and we so appreciate your generosity.

This morning we hosted a carnival featuring an assortment of games, including axe throwing, bean bag toss, and a miniature plinko game. We had a sing-along prior to enjoying our school lunch and funnel cake fries. This afternoon, we convened for a spirited game of whack-a-mole, which the residents thoroughly enjoyed. Afterwards, some staff members participated in a lighthearted pie-in-the-face activity. Tomorrow is Western day, and we are looking forward to a festive celebration.
