The magical Mimosa tree’s pink puff flowers are every bit as joyful as they look (and smell).
First off - Mimosa isn’t technically the correct name for this tree (which is actually known as Albizia) - however, it’s the name it has come to be known by in my region, so I do call it “Mimosa” as well as “Albizia” in my workings with it.
This tree exudes happiness, its bark and flowers have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as Western and other cultural medicines for their ability to bring happiness and resolve emotional heart wounds with their uplifting and supportive properties.
Albizia helps by moving stagnant liver Qi, which can become stuck after times of trauma or emotional distress. It invigorates the life-force energy of the blood and, in nourishing the heart and spirit, can relieve symptoms of anxiety.
Research studies indicate Albizia’s specific actions on serotonin receptors as it nourishes the nervous system, as well as its proven effects to relieve depression, and support for restorative sleep after periods of insomnia.
I love foraging Albizia - her flowers are like something from another world and smell like heaven. My Mimosa flower tincture is seasonally made with locally foraged flowers and is a good addition to the apothecary shelf for days when you need an extra dose of happiness or times when your emotional heart especially needs some nourishment.
