Mark your calendars!! On Saturday, October 4th from 9am - 12Noon, St. Catherine of Siena Hospital will be hosting its annual community health fair, offering free health screenings, flu vaccinations and for the first time, a special "Blessing of the Animals" (all pets must be in cage or on leash). James Golding from Kings Park, is very grateful to Dr. Thomas Dowling from Long Island Spine Specialists, P.C., and to the medical care team at St. Catherine’s new Center for Spine and Orthopaedics, for the concierge-type hospitality he has received—including the enjoyment of tasting a signature dish of the hospital’s executive chef! After successful spine surgery, Mr. Golding is on the road to recovery, thanks to the compassionate care he received during his stay with us!

September is National Recovery Month. For yesterday’s Light the Tree Purple
Ceremony, St. Catherine of Siena Hospital was thankful to partner with the Town of Smithtown’s Opioid and Addiction Task Force, along with our other partners, Horizon’s Counseling and Education Center and the Smithtown Youth Bureau. Together, we can end the stigma and educate the community about resources available.

Drew Chadwick, from Helping Hands Rescue Mission located in Huntington Station, received over 70 lbs of fresh produce from our Smile Farms Garden to help support their organization’s need of supporting approximately 1,000 families a month.

Our Smile Farms garden continues to flourish! Many thanks to our volunteers from the Smithtown Youth Bureau for their help tending to the garden over the summer months! All produce to be donated to local parishes and food pantries.

Catholic Health’s executive leadership, local elected officials and Hospital staff joined our celebratory ribbon cutting for St. Catherine’s Center for Spine and Orthopaedics. What made it extra special was listening to one of our grateful patients, Susan Hutnick, who was the first patient on the newly renovated post operative inpatient unit. The hospitality, private rooms, special amenities, and individualized care is something that patients have already been raving about, including Susan.

Thank you to our nursing staff for all you do! And to our amazing physicians from Long Island Spine Specialists, P.C., as well as our joint replacement physicians, who are changing lives every day!

Congratulations to our DAISY Award recipient Carleen Wist, RN, BSN, CAN, a nurse for 42 years in both the critical care unit and ICU. Carleen exemplifies what every nurse should be…she is a resource for new nurses and advocates for her patients’ wishes. She is by far, the most knowledgeable nurse and approachable if colleagues have questions. She is a true role model for others in the nursing profession to follow! Thank you Carleen, for all you do!

Congratulations to all of the nurses at St. Catherine of Siena Hospital who received a $5,000 scholarship from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. The scholarship funds will be used to help pay for continuing nursing education as our staff continue to excel and grow in their profession.
