Brightway Living & Learning

Brightway Living & Learning The parental influence continues with several of our board members being mothers and fathers of the people we serve. For more information, visit www.ddiny.org.

Founded in 1961 with a mission to foster growth and fulfillment for children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities, Brightway has spent sixty-five years leading the way in human services and serving families across Long Island. For more than 60 years, Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) has provided compassionate personal care to meet the emotional, educational, therap

eutic, and vocational needs of children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Founded by parents of children with developmental disabilities, DDI has grown into a dynamic, nonprofit, multi-site agency serving more than 1600 children and adults in our care each day. DDI recognizes that each person in our care has unique needs and deserves every opportunity to live a rich and meaningful life. Over six decades, we have built a strong reputation for providing exceptional services for all people in our programs, and in particular those who present with the most significant challenges. With a workforce made up of people inspired by purpose®, DDI provides the highest standards of individualized services from expertly trained, caring, and competent staff.

Last week, Team put our mission into action at the ACA Long Island Community Networking event! They were able to make community connections by showcasing our programs and services. Our new brand also debuted, which received very positive feedback from excited attendees.

A huge thank you to the team members who represented Brightway so well and built some important relationships with care coordinators, families, and other providers to better support people with disabilities.

Investments made last year are already making a difference, but without consistent funding, that progress is at risk. As New York lawmakers continue to debate the final budget, we urge our leadership to include a full 4% TII to stabilize the I/DD system.
Essential services, staff, and people with I/DD cannot afford to wait any longer.
Tell your lawmakers to include the full 4% TII in the final budget here: https://bit.ly/4tm0hhk

A New Name for a Brighter Future! ☀️

For 65 years, DDI has been a cornerstone of support for the Long Island community. Today, we are taking a bold step forward. We are thrilled to introduce Brightway Living & Learning.

Why the change? Because we believe there is always a way forward—even when the path isn't easy. Our new identity as Brightway reflects our commitment to being a clear, optimistic, and expert guide for the 1,500+ children and adults we serve.

While our look is new, our heart remains the same. We are still the same dedicated team of professionals, using evidence-based science and genuine compassion to help every individual flourish.

Big lessons for our little caretakers! Ms. Sophia’s class had a great time matching up baby animals to their parents this week. They also put on their babysitting hats to care for the classroom dolls—practicing how to feed them, change them, and tuck them in for naptime. Kudos to our educators for always making learning fun and engaging!

Our 26th Annual Golf Tournament is just around the corner, and spots are filling up fast! ⛳

We recognize that a full day of golf is not the right fit for everyone. If playing in the tournament is not part of your plans, you can still make a meaningful impact and enjoy time with our community.

Here are two great ways to get involved without playing 18 holes:

✔️ Join Us for Dinner: Enjoy great food, drinks, and our charity auction starting at 5:00 PM.

✔️ Sponsor a Tee Sign: Put your business logo or a personal message on display at a prominent hole.
