Learning to feel our way through stressful situations in life is how we avoid getting stuck there.

While there are no easy buttons to make stress vanish, we can teach our bodies to stay connected, curious and feel safe as we process hard things.

We become more resilient. Our mind hears wisdom faster when our body isn’t trying to shut down or clinging to a state of panic to fix things. We make better decisions. Life begins to grow all around us and in us.

If you feel like you live in a state of always feeling stressed (fight/flight) or you just feel shut down and powerless (freeze), start befriending your body and listening to what it’s saying. Allow big feelings to move through you and not judge them. Listen to the information they leave behind when they roll through.

There are many ways to safely teach your body to feel again.
-Join a class that teaches you to connect to your body- both in movement and stillness.
- Learn more about where you feel things in your body to better recognize what you’re feeling and help them to pass through.

There’s a guide that’s on my homepage that helps you map out what you’re feeling and what it’s connected to. It also has some suggestions for processing it better from the physical side.

If you’re looking for a movement routine to help you connect, build resiliency, and befriend your body, our studio is holistically minded, focusing on the benefits of mental and emotional health and resiliency as we move.

Coffee. Couch sitting. Good food. And a change of scenery. Our favorite way to spend an anniversary weekend.

“Some people long for a life that is simple and planned
Tied with a ribbon
Some people won't sail the sea 'cause they're safer on land
To follow what's written
But I'd follow you to the great unknown
Off to a world we call our own
Hand in my hand
And we promised to never let go
We're walking a tightrope
High in the sky
We can see the whole world down below
We're walking a tightrope
Never sure, never know how far we could fall
But it's all an adventure
That comes with a breathtaking view
Walking a tightrope
With you.”

I’ve always been addicted to learning, but learning about connecting to the body was a game changer. You’re a whole human. Our mind and body and heart/soul/emotions all go together in some crazy mish mash that we get to learn to navigate. When they all learn to work together, it’s a beautiful thing.

PS… there’s a new class coming to very soon!!! 🤩🤩🤩

There is a naivety that we lose in growth.

Because as we mature, somehow we transform into leaders we maybe didn’t even set out to be. We end up in positions we never would’ve chosen in a million years from a list of a hundred options. But it fits so well that we dare not deny it, and we care so much that we dare not abandon it.

We witness burden after burden, and we learn the dance of allowing problems to work themselves out vs knowing when to act out of the authority we’ve somehow inherited.

We accept that of all the skills and talents we posses and crave to put to use, the greatest gift we offer is the stability of our quiet presence. We offer the wisdom of silently watching the next wave wrestle with their own identity and just choosing to be there for them without blasting our answers, solutions, and advice on a megaphone.

And after so many layers have been shed, we become very aware that what God has placed in us is more valuable than any talent we craved to put to use.

Along with the surrender of our naivety, goes our pride.

When pride finally takes a seat to watch and learn, peace takes the place of angst. Satisfaction takes the place of frustration. Joy replaces surface level pleasures. Trust builds a firm foundation under us and replaces a need to know.

And we’re left with something that feels a lot like the wonder of naivety again— minus all the loaded baggage.

It’s been a little over three weeks in the new studio, and it’s feeling like home! A new addition to the schedule since moving is this Barre Flow *Friday edition class!!

It’s everything everyone loves about our Tuesday night Barre Flow plus a little extra Friday morning sauce on it! 🔥A little extra seat work. A little more heat in arm and shoulder work. And lots of juicy mobility work.

It’s a workout that keeps you moving, blood pumping, muscles burning, but sneaks in some really great, sneaky stretches that you may not even realize you’re getting in!

And we kept the essential oil foot massage in because it’s such a hit on Tuesday nights. Today we did a giddy little combo of Wild Orange happy + Lavender calm. ☺️

Our multi-level Barre classes are intensive body shaping experiences designed to produce reliable results. The method is taught by  BarreAmped certified instructors and utilizes a barre to achieve optimal positioning. Insights from Pilates, yoga, and orthopedic stretching also balance the method.....

I’ve only been asked about two dozen times to make these sprays available for purchase.

If you enjoy the sprays we use during the cool down segment at the end of our barre classes, good news. They are coming to the studio!! I probably will not take orders. They’ll just be there for purchase, a batch at a time.

Ironically, I’ve never named these sprays before now. One is punchy, energizing and uplifting and great for clearing away heaviness (we use it for AM classes), so it’s called Rising. The other is earthy and sweet and anchoring (we use it for PM classes), and I’m calling it Rooted. Both are great for clearing away feelings of stress and feeling reset and ready for whatever is next.

It only occurred to me after making the labels I had named them Rooted and Rising and that that might be significant and look like I did it on purpose. I did not 😂.

It may not be the beach this week, but I’ve learned I can create my own corner of peace wherever I go. I sure do love when it has a backdrop of sun, sand, and waves… but I’m pretty darn grateful for this little hidden forest tucked in the middle of the city of Cookeville.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the nurturers and comforters out there. I hope you make space for yourself on your list of people to love and care for and that the people you happily take care of without thanks reflect your worth back to you in the life you bring to them.

Did you know that your body has “energy meridians” running through it, connecting soft tissue, organs, nerves, lymphs, and blood flow?

When shoulders get all scrunched, rounded, and tight, we can use special acupressure points along the “gallbladder meridian” to help release the tension (mental, emotional, and physical).

Ways we carry stress in our shoulders: worrying about responsibilities, feeling unsupported, feeling a need to keep everything under control (but having no actual control), trying to do too much

How posture affects it: weakness in our core and back body muscles can leave the shoulders feeling like they have to hold us up… versus being supported from the bottom up and having a stacked posture that allows the shoulders to rest in place.

What you can do: locate, press, and hold point GB 21 (see pic 2), just along the tops of the traps on the shoulder, above the inside edge of the shoulder blade. Press and hold or wiggle around on that point for about a minute. Take deep inhales, filling the rib cage up to the bottom and in all directions (360 degrees). Exhale completely each time. Notice the pressure point change each time you exhale.

Extra Oil Help: Wintergreen is such an amazing oil to help you release worry and control (or feeling the lack of/need to). Rub it along the tops of shoulders, or apply to the GB 21 point, and feel your shoulders soften and relax into place. You’ll be surprised how much your mind follows the cues of your body!
