Did you know that your body has “energy meridians” running through it, connecting soft tissue, organs, nerves, lymphs, and blood flow?
When shoulders get all scrunched, rounded, and tight, we can use special acupressure points along the “gallbladder meridian” to help release the tension (mental, emotional, and physical).
Ways we carry stress in our shoulders: worrying about responsibilities, feeling unsupported, feeling a need to keep everything under control (but having no actual control), trying to do too much
How posture affects it: weakness in our core and back body muscles can leave the shoulders feeling like they have to hold us up… versus being supported from the bottom up and having a stacked posture that allows the shoulders to rest in place.
What you can do: locate, press, and hold point GB 21 (see pic 2), just along the tops of the traps on the shoulder, above the inside edge of the shoulder blade. Press and hold or wiggle around on that point for about a minute. Take deep inhales, filling the rib cage up to the bottom and in all directions (360 degrees). Exhale completely each time. Notice the pressure point change each time you exhale.
Extra Oil Help: Wintergreen is such an amazing oil to help you release worry and control (or feeling the lack of/need to). Rub it along the tops of shoulders, or apply to the GB 21 point, and feel your shoulders soften and relax into place. You’ll be surprised how much your mind follows the cues of your body!
