Wanted: 5 people to commit to move better, feel better, and (by accident)look better in September. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings we will meet up, in Dowelltown (just at the bottom of the hill, five minutes from Smithville), from 7:00-8:00 am. This will be a yoga class, self defense orientation, with some kickboxing in the mash-up. There will be a shower available if you need to clean up and run off to work at the end. $75-$150 sliding scale investment suggested, no one turned away for lack of funds.

My favorite part is that we will be making small but meaningful adjustments to the way we move and breathe that we can bring into all of our life.

My other favorite part is that this is designed to be an exercise in community support and accountability, so I am requesting that people try to commit to at least two of the three classes every week. Different ages and mobility levels are accommodated, but it matters that you can navigate stairs and get up and down from the floor without help.

6:30pm Wednesday class resumes starting September 4, at the new location (and online). Curious about the super secret location? Ask me in a private message and I will tell you all about it. 🤩🤩🤩

I am super excited about seeing you in real life again. In health! Love, Amy

A few days ago i got to spend a glorious day visiting with an old friend. One thing cool about being nearly half a century old, is that you have friends that you have known for 27 years 🤩 Valencia Wombone will join us for the Art Sale and Stuff Swap.

I seriously need to start a podcast and put you guys onto some of the wisdom in these old heads🤣🤣🤩🤣🤣

But you can start by coming on 18 May, to the first semi biannual Art Sale and Stuff Swap. On Hillview Heights, 2-7pm link in comments 👇

The perimeter of the space is surrounded by large mounted/ suspended canvases that feature art inspired by the flowers. Meeting in person at my house thurs. 8:30 am: we will caravan to Benji’s ( just around the corner). Class will start as promptly as possible: 9 am central time on zoom.

Some things change and some things stay the same

Three of five yoga teachers who began our training in 2020 have successfully completed the training! Jess, Blue, and Ricky are OFFICIAL!!! This training for sure has been full of plot twists. The remaining two teachers are still in the program and scheduled to complete it this year: they were the two teachers whose family had COVID-19, and they both were out for a significant amount of time healing and caring for others. They continue to make up the work and we are very patient. As we transition to being a team of teachers, we are looking for a new studio space for us all to teach, and watching the world and our local community to make sure our timing is perfect.

This seems like a good time to experiment with changing the way I am teaching online for my public classes. For the month of July, I am not offering Monday classes. My Wednesday 6:30 pm class, Thursday 9 am class, will still be on zoom. Temporarily I am suspending the invitation to practice on my deck because I will be in East Nashville, at Eastside Manor teaching to family here during regular midweek zoom sessions. If you are in the neighborhood: there is a few spots for guests, please get in touch for an invitation.

The format is changing. The classes will be a little longer and will be more informative. Instead of focusing purely on the practice of physical asana, I will be teaching more philosophy, pranayama, and meditation during the sessions. I will record them, and they will be available all week to participants. So, you can do the practice as many times as you want in a week. If you are unable to make it to the scheduled class, you can do it later after you get off of work or the baby gets to sleep or whatever your life has on tap for the day.

Please do let me know if you want me to send you a link, so you can enjoy the class at your leisure. It will be available as a youtube link, and I am experimenting with dropbox too, so that people with unpredictable internet can participate too.

The cost of the new sessions will remain sliding scale and no one turned away for lack of funds. I recommend $20 donation per class ( all money is going to our re-opening fund), or continue supporting the school with a monthly subscription type donation. Leopard's qigong class continues to be available on Friday mornings, as well, as part of your healing arts club membership.

Lake yoga will resume later in the season. We are breaking for the heat of the summer and also while the marina uses our yoga floor for repairs.

Ricky and I are still sporadically getting together to practice our unique system of karate at the marina, please let me know if you or your child is interested in joining us, I will put you on the short list of friends to call when we set up sessions.

Today four new yoga teachers graduated from a Center Hill Martial and Healing Arts 200 hour training, on a journey that began in February 2020. This year and five months has been full of plot twists, and these people have made me very proud. They will be teaching here in Dekalb, Cannon, and Putnam Counties. Congratulations! 🎈🎉

My New Year’s Wish, Prayer, Blessing, and Resolution:

May the isolation, fear and loss we have suffered in this past year make us more appreciative of our friends, loved ones and coworkers, and more aware of how vitally we need community.

May the callousness, irresponsibility and corruption we have seen in powerholders make us appreciate the value of truth, integrity, and caring in our leaders.

May the barrage of lies, disinformation and conspiracy theories that flood the internet inspire us to hone our critical thinking and strengthen our capacity for good judgement.

May the injustices we have witnessed and suffered deepen our commitment to dismantle systems of oppression.

May the fires, floods, hurricanes and disasters of this last year make us more aware that we are subject to nature’s laws, and more determined to bring us into balance.

May this coming year be a turning point—toward a world of more compassion, more caring, more sharing, more integrity, more courage, more health, more regeneration, and more joy in being agents of justice and renewal!

As we enter into a New Year, I know we’re all hoping for a better year than 2020. I invite you to take some time in the next few days and contemplate what you're proud of, and all you have had to overcome to do what in another year might have seemed simple. Give yourself some real credit for what you've accomplished! And: what are you looking forward to? What spark can light your way through the darkness?

I’m proud of all that my team and my non-profit organization Earth Activist Training have accomplished this last year, in spite of all the obstacles. And I’m excited for all the courses and offerings that we have planned for 2021. You can see all of our upcoming new courses here ▶︎ ▶︎▶︎ https://earthactivisttraining.org/schedule

If you are able to make an end-of-year donation to support the regenerative work that EAT is doing, your donations will support our Diversity Scholarships for indigenous folks and people of color working in environmental and social justice, and will support improved access for Deaf and hard of hearing people. Donate here ▶︎▶︎▶︎ https://earthactivisttraining.org/donate-now/

I am so grateful for all the support we’ve received this year, and as we face the continuing challenges and unknowns of the future, I am thankful for all of your support in broadening the regenerative movement, and bringing the tools and skills of ecological and social resilience to those on the front lines of struggle!

Happy New Year,
Starhawk
