We are proud to be partnering with this National Recovery Month to show that our organization is not just for those in active recovery from Substance Use Disorder(s) (SUDs), but also for the individual who has been impacted by addiction through a friend, family member or other loved one in their community. RiS offers a place for these individuals to give back through volunteer work, as well as a platform to share their stories with other anglers who have been impacted through addiction. Addiction affects the entire community, but at RiS we believe that community, along with the therapeutic sport of fly fishing, can be a driving force behind positive change within the recovery, sobriety and familial community. Our partnership with proves that individuals from all walks of sobriety, recovery, or otherwise can fish together!

6 more days to bid on the variety of items up for grabs during our auction!

🚨NEW ITEM ALERT🚨

We’re privileged to be offering a dozen Weedless Bendback Clouser Minnows tied by Allen Rupp. Allen has been tying flies and fly fishing for over 35 years. He prides himself on tying durable flies that are appropriate to the situation. Allen is donating four each in chartreuse & white, chartreuse & yellow, and white with a red head. They’re about 3.5” long.

From Allen: How do you make The Clouser Deep Minnow better? You make it almost weedless. On Bonefish flats, that are more than a foot deep, with grass, it might be the best fly to throw at them. It lands soft, sinks well, and has a subtle action that drives Bonefish crazy. It works great in the Northeast for Striped Bass, Bluefish, Bonito, and False Albacore as well. I love it in the back country of Florida and Central America for Tarpon, Snook, and Redfish. Don’t worry about the mangroves, just pull it slowly snd softly and you’ll get it back. For you freshwater anglers, it is an amazing Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass fly. It is also my favorite Crappie streamer, it gets down deep quickly and stays there. You can cast it into grass or tree tops and it will come back as well. All of these flies are tied on saltwater safe hooks.

Allen is a trustee of the American Museum of Fly Fishing. Allen also teaches tying, and was mentored by the great Dave Whitlock.

RiS Colorado Retreat #1 Recap 2025

Recap by Jon Easdon, RiS Board Member and Colorado retreat host. “I have been really excited about kicking off this year’s retreats here in Colorado all winter! We got to do that on a beautiful Sunday in April with a group of amazing volunteers and participants. Low water levels forced us to pivot to a different location, but it turned out to be a great alternative!

From the moment we met in the parking lot at the fly shop, I could tell this was going to be a fun day with great people. We all headed up to Tip Lake, a lake on one of our private water sections that FlyFish Colorado gave us access to. After a nice and uneventful drive, we arrived at the lake. We paired off guides and participants and then everyone started to get to know each other. These initial conversations are always so cool and inspiring. We discussed the intinerary for the day and the mission of Reeling in Serenity.

The group quickly got to work on the water and I think the first fish was landed 5 minutes in. I could tell that the fishing might be bananas on this day, and it certainly was. Screams of joy echoed all over the lake follwed by hugs and high fives.

Our closing discussion was one filled with gratitude, hope, and a renewed appreciation for the gift we all have been given in sobriety. We walked away from this amazing day with new friendships, and I have no doubt in my mind of the impact this experience had on those who participated. I know it greatly affected me, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something so big. We do recover, we do have fun, and we do thrive. This day proved all of that. The fishing was great, but the recovery was even better.

A gigantic shout out to all of the guides and thank you to FlyFish Colorado for giving us access to the water for the retreat and believeing in our cause.”

Many thanks to and Tammy Harris for donating the day to Reeling In Serenity on Sunday, June 1st! RiS’ Executive Director Sylvia Huron and Board Member Jason Causey guided two wonderful supporters of Reeling in Serenity. Alex Wallis and his wife Kelly joined us for a day on the river and it was perfect! We’re so thankful for our supporters - we couldn’t do it without you! Becca’s presence was felt by all and made sure everyone got on some beautiful fish! 💜

It’s not too early to start thinking about our annual online auction that will take place the first two weeks of September! Maybe we’ll even offer more Reeling in Serenity led fishing trips 🤗
