My Poem for Holy Saturday

SINGING IN THE SILENCE
I’m singing in the silence
Of Holy Saturday,
He said that, “It is Finished,”
Only yesterday.

I’m singing in the silence
Between loss and life made new,
Facing nights of darkness,
While in silence I wait for you.

I’m singing in the silence
Suspended between the times,
Yesterday was love completed,
Tomorrow comes the surprise.

I’m singing in the silence,
You have broken the gates of hell.
Adam and Eve released now,
Death has been dispelled.

I’m singing in the darkness,
The ages feel the strain,
I feel the hope before me,
But I still can feel the pain.

I hear a whisper in the darkness,
A promise to heal my heart.
Tomorrow you will be with me,
Never to depart. .

The Cross is right behind me.
Tomorrow an empty grave.
I’m singing in the darkness,
Waiting the coming day.

Dawn on me in the darkness,
Fill me with your love.
Your promise needs fulfillment,
Send your peace-giving dove.

Your presence fills this absence;
I know you are not gone.
Help me live into your future,
Let the past be moving on.

I’m’ singing in the dawning,
Of Holy Saturday.
He said that “it is finished,”
Now I look to His new day.

Singing, I’m singing,
Singing, I’m still singing,
I will always be singing,
Waiting on your love.

The conversation in the Church on human suffering has changed. Horrific scandal is constantly reported from today’s media, and an awareness of trauma has seeped into daily vernacular and the imagination of popular culture. Tragically, the Church is not immune to these scandals. This not the way it...

"Jesus is the voice of God, who stepped on the scene to perform surgery on the heart of humanity. He pulled the mask off abusive, binding religion and self-made spiritualities to expose the human actors at work and their destructive ends. We must still pay attention to distorted visions of God in our own time. But most significantly, Jesus reintroduced the blind world to its freeing Creator in order to facilitate a family reunion." An important person to engage!

John Bowlby's Attachment Theory shows how relational patterns set early in life affect emotional bonds later in life. This film's focus is on attachment theory as it explains many aspects of personality development from childhood through to adulthood. The film is a companion piece to our very popula...

Learning new authentic ways of being together in the real world.

Words like trauma-informed and resiliency get thrown around a lot these days. And for many, the visions they call up are a bit too glossy. You see resiliency and trauma-informed aren’t always pretty. Resiliency can look like closing the bathroom door and collapsing in tears… but then washing you...

This is an important shift to see things in the context of relational causes and not merely biological issues. We need a new approach and this corresponds to my own understanding!

In this extract from his new book, Johann Hari, who took antidepressants for 14 years, calls for a new approach

I like to engage life's big questions. I want to see how it all fits together and how I can help others to find meaning in the context of their relationships that make the difference to find contentment.
