Who We Are
Eastern Eye Care is a privately owned practice that was established in the town of Snow Hill, NC by “Dr. George” Schertzinger in 1980. Dr. George received his education from Southern College of Optometry in 1978, where he graduated with honors Dr. George has been able to provide eye care to the residents of Greene County and surrounding areas for over 40 years. He has also served Greene Lamp Head Start for over 20 years. Dr. George has been part of several organizations throughout the years among the community and the state. He was the Former Chairman of the Lenoir County Board of Health, Former President of the Association of North Carolina Board of Health, and served in the North Carolina Commission for Public Health for 16 years. Dr. George lives in Kinston, NC with his wife, Suzy. They enjoy spending time with their 4 children and 4 grandchildren. Dr. George has thoroughly enjoyed caring for his patients over the years and continues to provide exceptional care to the residents of Greene County and surrounding areas.
Dr. George’s son, “Dr. Logan” Schertzinger, joined Eastern Eye Care in 2017. Dr. Logan was born and raised in eastern North Carolina. He attended East Carolina University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health, concentrating in pre-medical sciences. Dr. Logan went on to obtain his doctorate from Western University of Health Sciences in California, where he was a Dean’s list student and graduated with clinical and academic honors. In addition, he was a 4-year member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Academic Honor Society, recipient of the Low Vision Award, and nominated by his professors as a Who’s Who Among American Colleges graduate. He completed his internship training at James H. Quillen Veterans Hospital in Johnson City, TN, WM Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia, S.C., and the Cape Fear Eye Institute in Wilmington, N.C., under the training of Dr. James Fanelli and Dr. Jamie Casper. His professional interests include ocular trauma, glaucoma, diabetic and cardiovascular eye disease, macular degeneration, and dry eye syndrome. Dr. Logan lives in Snow Hill, NC with his wife, Samantha, and their daughter, Saylor.
