Advanced Spine Care, Right Here at Home

Orthopedic Spine Surgeon Dr. Samuel Adams is helping patients on the Kenai Peninsula find relief from back and neck pain—close to home. With 11 years of experience, Dr. Adams offers expert care for a wide range of spine conditions, and he brings advanced skill with robotic-assisted procedures using the Mazor X Stealth Robotic Guidance Platform.

“As a longtime user of robotics, I’ve seen how it allows for more accurate surgery, fewer complications, and minimally invasive procedures,” says Dr. Adams. “Robotic surgery has been a passion of mine, and I’m excited to offer it to patients here on the Peninsula.”

Dr. Adams also has a special clinical and research focus in Cervical Myelopathy (compression of the spinal cord)—a condition he’s spent much of his career studying and treating.

Happy New Year!

A lot of patients are surprised when they learn much of my practice still involves care and surgery for patients from the Mat-Su Valley! Most of your care can be managed through telemedicine appointments. I still work closely with local imaging, physical therapy, and injection facilities to keep your care in the Valley. Surgically, we've completed dozens of surgeries on Valley residents in the last year and we are well equipped to help you manage travel and arrangements for staying here, with discounts on local hotels. Whether you're a former patient, looking for another opinion, or just starting to seek treatment for your spine, we're here to help you get back to your life.

Hello!

You may have heard, I am leaving Pioneer Peak Orthopedics. My final day will be February 13. Almost 5 years to the day of my first visit to Alaska and a lot has happened since then. What was meant to be a short adventure has become a lifelong commitment to Alaska living. Starting in March, I will be seeing patients at Central Peninsula Hospital (CPH) in Soldotna. Their reputation for genuine patient care is well known in the medical community and I am thankful for the opportunity to join them. They have made this transition as smooth as possible and I am looking forward to continuing to care for Alaskans at my new location. See below for information on how to schedule with me. Telemed will be available so I can continue to work with Mat-Su patients!

I built a successful Spine practice on two guiding principles. First, Do No Harm. And secondly, treat others as you would like to be treated. My approach to patient care has always been based on patient outcomes over profit with a goal of avoiding invasive or unnecessary procedures. Some patients came to me after being told that surgery was the only option. With many of them, we found a non-surgical pathway to recovery. Some patients came to me after being told there were no surgical options. Many of them received complex surgical care and happy outcomes. Every case has been an honor to be a part of and I am humbled by the opportunity and trust. If you have spent time with me in my clinic, you know that I see my patients as family and neighbors and do my best to provide world-class care. Please share a review on my page!

The past 5 years in the Mat-Su Valley have been amazing. I have explored countless opportunities in our area and I know I have only scratched the surface. I hope to continue to explore our region until no stone is left unappreciated. The Valley has been my most valued Home. I have made amazing friends and taken care of thousands of patients. While I may be moving away to continue my career, I will continue to be an active member of our community. Over the years, I have become an ardent advocate for our beautiful parks and trails and hope to continue to contribute to thoughtful expansion and conservation efforts in every way possible. My time with the Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation has been one of the most meaningful aspects of my life here outside of surgery. The work done by them and other organizations such as the Mat-Su Ski Club, Valley Mountain Bikers and Hikers, Backcountry Bike and Ski, and AKtive Soles helps maintain and develop our amazing recreation opportunities. The hardwork and talent of our neighbors is truly one of the special parts that make Mat-Su what it is. Seeing the amazing local art shops, the menagerie of talents from groups like Bad Girls of The North, or catching my favorite local musicians at the Palmer Ale House or Hatcher Pass Lodge has always made me feel surrounded by the most talented people I have ever encountered. I will continue to support our local businesses and artists/musicians. I am thankful for the wonderful community around me.

Finally, and most importantly, I want to say THANK YOU! Thank you to the amazing staff at Pioneer Peak Orthopedics who have been the foundation of my practice. Thank you to the staff at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. The Doctors, Nurses, Schedulers, Scrub Techs, SPD, Phlebotomists, X-ray techs, Custodial staff, Cafeteria staff, etc. Your impact on me and your care for our patients is priceless. Over the years, I have expected perfection from many of you and you have always been up to the task. THANK YOU! To our local Physical Therapists and Chiropractors who have been hands-on in the healing of our neighbors/patients. I am nothing without your ability to heal and strengthen our patients. THANK YOU! To the Primary Care Providers, Urgent Care Providers, and others who have placed their faith in me to heal their patients, I hope I have earned that trust and demonstrated my willingness and ability to care and heal. THANK YOU! Finally, THANK YOU MAT-SU VALLEY! It has been an honor to be your spine surgeon. I will be seeing you again but hopefully next time on our favorite trail.

Now on to the Peninsula! There is more to be done!
