🚶‍♀️💙 Thank you for walking with us this morning! 💙🚶‍♂️

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for Walk With a Doc today. We’re especially grateful to our Emergency Medicine physician, Dr. Magalie Grant, for sharing such an excellent overview of the signs and symptoms of stroke—and what to do if you or a loved one experiences them. The thoughtful questions from the group made for a great discussion and learning experience.

And a big thank-you to Soldotna Parks & Recreation for their continued partnership and for hosting us. We appreciate everyone who came out to walk, learn, and take steps toward better health👟🧠

Our next Walk With a Doc will be on Wednesday, March 4th, at 7:30a.m. at the Soldotna Field House. Our speaker will be Josh Feede, DPT, with Central Peninsula Rehabilitation, speaking on Dry Needling.

Dry needling is a therapy technique used to treat muscle pain and movement issues.

What it does:
• Releases tight, knotted muscles
• Reduces pain and muscle spasms
• Improves range of motion and movement
• Helps muscles “reset” and relax

As always, these walks are FREE and open to everyone! We would love to have you join us!

💙 Community Care in Action 💙

Did you know that as many as 350 people on the Kenai Peninsula are experiencing homelessness or housing instability? For many, that means not only lacking shelter, but also facing barriers to basic needs like food, warm clothing, healthcare, and dental care.

On January 27, 2026, the Kenai Peninsula Continuum of Care — alongside more than 40 local vendors and service providers — came together to host the 17th Annual Project Homeless Connect at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex and Field House. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., community members were welcomed with free, essential services, including hot meals, immunizations, housing and recovery resources, disability support, shelter and sober housing information, haircuts, massages, and more.

Central Peninsula Hospital was proud to support this important event — and even prouder of the CPH employees who stepped up to serve.
💙 Kathy Gensel and Frank Alioto, both CPH employees, served as co-chairs of Project Homeless Connect.
💙 Multiple CPH departments, staff, volunteers, and board members donated their time and talents throughout the day.
💙 And one of our own, Monique Novotny, has taken her passion for helping others beyond the walls of the hospital by founding Mo on the Go Transport, a non-emergency medical transportation service dedicated to meeting community needs.

This is what community healthcare looks like — showing up, lending a hand, and meeting people where they are. We are incredibly proud of our employees and the compassion they bring to the Kenai Peninsula every day. 💙

🚧 Parking Lot Traffic Update – River Tower 🚧

On Thursday, January 29, from 7:30 a.m. until approximately 3:00 p.m., the driveway alongside the River Tower will be temporarily closed while we bring in equipment to replace our CT scanner.

➡️ An alternate route will be clearly marked, and
✅ Drop-offs at the River Tower entrance will NOT be affected.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this brief disruption. This new CT scanner is an important upgrade that will strengthen our ability to provide high-quality care to our community—now and into the future.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Central Peninsula Hospital 💙

The Great Flood of 2025: Mops, Mustaches & Teamwork

On December 13, Central Peninsula Hospital experienced an unexpected internal emergency when a broken pipe in the Security Office caused water to rapidly flood nearby areas and threaten the Emergency Department.

What happened next was a powerful reminder of why teamwork, preparedness, and community partnerships matter so much.

Hospital staff from across departments responded immediately — staying calm, communicating clearly, and stepping into action to protect patients, equipment, and critical care spaces. Job titles disappeared as everyone focused on one shared goal: keeping patient care safe and uninterrupted.

A critical turning point came with the arrival of Central Emergency Services, Station 1, with firefighters from both C Shift and B Shift. They quickly helped locate the source of the flooding, shut off the water, and prevent further damage to the Emergency Department. Their timely response helped ensure emergency services for our community could continue without interruption.

And they didn’t stop there.

Even after the immediate threat was controlled, the firefighters stayed on scene — mopping water, pushing it out of affected areas, and working shoulder-to-shoulder with hospital staff to restore safe conditions. Along the way, they brought calm professionalism (and a little humor) that helped ease an intense situation — including some good-natured jokes about firefighters responding to a flood instead of a fire.

We extend our sincere thanks to the firefighters who went above and beyond that day:
• Shawn Killian
• Dan Moran Jr.
• Matt Meade
• Joe Halstead
• Carson Ratky
• Eugene Lee
• Gabriel Borrego
• Finnley Loop

We are equally grateful to our hospital staff across all departments who responded quickly, adapted on the fly, and supported one another every step of the way.

There may not have been a fire — but because of extraordinary teamwork, the Emergency Department remained operational, patient care continued, and our community stayed protected.

Thank you to everyone who showed up when it mattered most. 💙
