Empowering individuals with disabilities to live the life they choose with the supports they direct.
Frontier Community Services is dedicated to helping people stay in their home and to remain active in their community. Originally founded by a group of parents who wanted more for their children with disabilities than sitting at home in front of the TV, Frontier Community Services has developed programs for individuals of all ages. We provide a full array of services throughout a person's life span. We believe that people with disabilities can and should be valued members of their community and we strive to make this a reality for every individual we serve.

As we observe World Su***de Prevention Day today, spotlighting the emotional and public health dimensions right here in Alaska is essential. Su***de remains a leading and deeply painful public health concern across our state.
📊 In 2023:
213 Alaskans died by su***de — a rate of 28.5 per 100,000, double the national average.
Among youth ages 15–24, the rate soared to 42.3 per 100,000 — our most impacted demographic.
Alaska Native and American Indian communities face especially elevated risks, with rates as high as 58.5 per 100,000.
1,092 ER visits were recorded for su***de attempts — nearly 5x the number of deaths.
These are not just statistics. They represent friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues. Alaska also faces unique seasonal challenges: nearly 9% of residents experience Seasonal Affective Disorder, with a quarter more showing milder symptoms.
At Frontier, we stand with our community members affected by su***de. We believe in the power of awareness, connection, and action. 💚
If you’d like to learn more about how you can help prevent su***de, please see the SafeTALK Su***de Prevention Training hosted by Kenaitze Dena'ina Wellness Center. This free training can give you the tools to recognize when someone may be at risk and connect them with the help they need

September is FASD Awareness Month
We’re not just talking about it — we’re celebrating the incredible team that shows up every single day for families, individuals, and the truth that support changes everything.
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) don’t come with a single face, symptom, or solution. That’s why our Frontier FASD team, led by Megan Wohlers and Dr. McIntosh, brings heart, commitment, and an unwavering belief in every person’s potential. From evaluations and outreach to referrals and training, they fight for early support, understanding, and brighter futures.
They don’t just provide services. They build understanding—one school, one family, one training at a time. Because FASD isn’t just a diagnosis. It’s a call to action. And our team is answering that call with brain science and empathy in equal measure.
So here’s to the FASD crew: Loud in advocacy. Quiet in patience. Legendary in impact. You make the invisible visible—and that deserves more than a spotlight. It deserves a standing ovation.
