Frontier Community Services

Frontier Community Services Empowering individuals with disabilities to live the life they choose with the supports they direct.

Frontier Community Services is dedicated to helping people stay in their home and to remain active in their community. Originally founded by a group of parents who wanted more for their children with disabilities than sitting at home in front of the TV, Frontier Community Services has developed programs for individuals of all ages. We provide a full array of services throughout a person's life span. We believe that people with disabilities can and should be valued members of their community and we strive to make this a reality for every individual we serve.

This Christmas season, each department at Frontier was paired with a home where people live 24/7, sharing the responsibility of helping make four meaningful holidays truly special: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.

The goal wasn’t just to mark the holidays, but to celebrate them in ways that reflected what the residents genuinely wanted and enjoyed. Across the agency, teams showed up with creativity, care, and real connection—bringing favorite traditions to life, creating new memories, and building relationships beyond everyday roles.

These photos capture that spirit and the joy that comes from people coming together in thoughtful, person-centered ways. It’s been incredibly meaningful to see these connections grow across departments and homes.

Did you know Frontier now offers a new 12-hour Good Life shift staffing model for Direct Support Professionals? 🕒

Xavier, a DSP with Frontier, shared how this is helping residents feel even more supported with consistent staffing.
💬 “They get more certainty about who’s going to be there… more time to talk, more time to socialize with them and get to know them as a person.”
👥 Residents benefit from familiar faces and stronger relationships
💚 Families see the difference in connection and care

And for Xavier? With three days off each week, his work-life balance is thriving.
💬 “I know exactly where I’m going and when. Before, I only had Fridays off. Now with Monday and Tuesday off, it gives me more of a stretch and more time to plan.”
He has more time with his kids and more clarity in his schedule.

📅 Staff enjoy predictable routines and better work-life balance.
The Goodlife model allows Frontier to pay DSPs a higher wage by guaranteeing 4 hours of overtime on weekdays and 4 hours of double time on weekend shifts. The average rate of pay varies on location, experience and whether you choose to work 3 or 4 days a week. DSPs in a 3-day model will only work 12 days a month.

We're thrilled to share this news 👏👏
Frontier’s FASD diagnostic clinic is one of three in Alaska and the only clinic that diagnoses both children and adults with FASD.

🚨 HUGE NEWS: The SUPPORT Act has been signed into law by the President, officially authorizing the FASD Respect Act. This is the culmination of countless hours of work by the FASD community, and we are grateful for the work of our sponsors, Senators Murkowski and Klobuchar and House Champions Representatives McCollum and Bacon over the years. Now, we turn our focus to ensuring FASD Respect Act programs are fully funded and able to make it into your communities.

The FASD Respect Act goes beyond just securing funding for FASD programs. Now that the FASD Respect Act has become law, the federal government is tasked to address FASD through a realigned perspective that supports individuals and families and respects their lived experience. Official passage also allows this community to fight for greater funding for the programs and services that will make a real difference in your lives.

This significant step forward was made possible by the generous donation of time, energy, and charitable giving from the entire FASD community. Self-advocates, parents and caregivers, and professionals across the country donated their time by writing to and meeting with Members of Congress, ensuring they are FASD-informed. Longtime champions like Susan Shepard Carlson spent countless hours drafting legislation and sharing their expertise with advocates. National coordination from FASD United has helped this grassroots movement be sustainable and effective, and this work is fully funded by generous donations from people like you.

We hope you will consider giving to FASD United to allow us to continue this work as we fight for increased funding for FASD Respect Act programs. Support us here: https://fasdunited.org/season-of-giving/

Image Description: The image shows a group of adults standing together in front of the U.S. Capitol on a bright, clear day. They are all wearing matching black shirts with FASD awareness messages and red shoes. The text on the image announces that the SUPPORT Act has been signed into law, authorizing the FASD Respect Act. A small logo for FASD United appears in the upper right corner, and a link to donate is displayed at the top.

We're celebrating Scarlet Honrud’s one-year anniversary with Frontier Community Services! 🎉

Scarlet joined us as a Direct Support Professional and quickly demonstrated the heart, professionalism, and determination that make her exceptional. She soon transitioned to our Adult Day Forget-Me-Not Center in Kenai, where she flourished.

Her ability to connect with the elders who attend the center—meeting them with warmth, respect, and genuine care—has made a meaningful impact on the program 💚

When a coordinator position opened, Scarlet stepped forward and embraced the next level of responsibility, all within her first year. This transition speaks volumes about her commitment to self-determination and her willingness to grow in both skill and leadership.

Scarlet creates a welcoming and nurturing environment every day. She is kind. She is dedicated. She is professional. And because of her consistent efforts, the agency benefits, the program benefits, and—most importantly—the people we support benefit.

Thank you, Scarlet, for choosing Frontier. We are grateful you are part of our team. ✨✨

A Heartfelt Frontier Thanksgiving! 🍂🦃

Our amazing staff came together to help the girls at St. Andrews prepare a full Thanksgiving feast — from seasoning the turkey to whipping up all the delicious sides that make the holiday so special. The kitchen was filled with laughter, teamwork, and the sweet aroma of gratitude (and maybe a little apple pie magic, too!) 🥧

It was truly heartwarming to see the smiles, hear the giggles, and feel the warmth of everyone coming together like one big family. Moments like these remind us what the season is all about — joy, connection, and giving back with love.

A huge thank you and many blessings to all of our incredible employees who made this celebration so special this year. Your kindness and dedication made this Thanksgiving shine brighter than ever! 💛
