On August 6th, the Asbury Solomons Diamondback Terrapin Nest Monitoring Team released the hatchlings from this season's first protected nest on the Asbury Beach where the eggs were laid. 11 baby turtles were released after hatching in Dr. Chris Rose laboratory at the Chesapeake biological Laboratory in Solomons, where they had been moved to finish hatching and studied before their release. The citizen science project, and in its seventh year, is helping to preserve a threatened species that is important to the Patuxent River ecosystem.

Qigong was a big hit in July, here at Asbury Solomons and classes will be returning in September. Qigong, an ancient Chinese practice, integrating gentle movement, breath control, and meditation, offers a range of potential health benefits, supported by both traditional wisdom and modern research.  Some benefits may include reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood, enhancing sleep quality, boosting flexibility and balance, improving circulation and enhancing core strength. There are always new and exciting things happening here at Asbury Solomons.

Last Friday was an educational and fun outing for some Asbury Solomons Residents. A trip to the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory. The Chesapeake Biological Laboratory is a national leader in fisheries science, estuarine ecology, environmental chemistry & toxicology & graduate education.

What a fun celebration last week was with Asbury Solomons swim challenge participants. 25 participants in this challenge swam a total of 146 miles in the pool, within a five week timeframe. This is the 10th swim challenge at Asbury Solomons.  This challenge was the Triple Corona Sudamerica/ The South American Triple Crown. Several swim locations near Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina/Chile. The participants enjoyed a well deserved Brazilian theme party including empanadas, plantains, and chilled purtumute along with delicious desserts.
