Friday Fun at The Center for LifeSkills 🌟

This week in feeding therapy with Miss Jill, creativity took the lead! With zero pressure or expectation to eat, her client explored food in a playful, low-demand way while interacting with different textures, smells, and foods.

From a butterfly to a turtle to a dinosaur, it was so fun to watch each creation come to life. Activities like this help build comfort, curiosity, and positive experiences with food over time.

We love seeing our clients’ creative minds at work! 🦋🐢🦖

🌟 Meet the Team Thursday 🌟

Let’s meet Kelsey O’Neal, one of our amazing speech-language pathologists!

Kelsey has two cats, Tofu and KitKat, and loves spending her free time listening to music, crocheting, and painting🐱🎨🎶

Kelsey loves being an SLP because communication is so much more than talking. It’s connection, confidence, relationships, independence, and being understood. Being part of that journey with her clients is the best part of what she does.

We’re so happy to have Kelsey on the team and love the heart she brings to her work every day!✨

Wellness Wednesday🌿

Each week, our team continues learning and growing so we can better support the children and families we serve through meaningful, everyday moments.

This week’s focus: Multidisciplinary Approaches to Assessing Play

Play gives us so much more than fun. Through play, we see communication, sensory-motor foundations, regulation, participation, problem-solving, and social connection all unfold in real time.

One of the biggest takeaways from this week’s learning is that play does not have to look one specific way. Play can happen while cooking together, during bath time, in the car, at mealtime, or through rough-and-tumble games. These everyday routines often give us some of the most meaningful insight into a child’s development.

By observing play and listening closely to families, we gain a fuller picture of each child’s strengths, interests, and needs so that support feels practical, natural, and connected to real life.

Our biggest takeaway? When we watch a child play, we are seeing so much more than play. We are seeing the building blocks for growth, connection, and learning!✨

Milestone Monday! ⭐️

This week we’re highlighting developmental milestones for toddlers 18–24 months!

At this stage, toddlers are becoming more independent, more curious, and more confident in how they communicate, move, and play. You may notice growth in both speech and occupational skills as they begin expressing their wants more clearly, exploring their environment with purpose, and trying more everyday tasks on their own.

It’s an exciting stage as toddlers are learning new skills every day and becoming more confident in exploring the world around them! ✨

Wellness Wednesday🌿

Each week, our team continues to grow in how we support the children and families we serve by turning knowledge into meaningful, everyday practice.

This week’s focus: Rebuilding Foundations Through Everyday Play

Play isn’t just fun, it’s essential for development. Through hands-on play, children build problem-solving skills, strengthen social connections, and develop the motor skills needed for everyday tasks. These experiences create the foundation for learning, confidence, and independence.

Our biggest takeaway? The simplest moments, such as stacking blocks, pretend play, moving, and exploring can have the biggest impact!

We’re committed to helping families create rich, play-based experiences that support growth both in and out of sessions ✨

Tuesday’s Tips! 🧠

Fine motor skills play a big role in a child’s independence and daily success! From grasping utensils to manipulating small objects, these skills support everything from feeding to play and early writing.

Incorporating simple, play-based activities like encouraging self-feeding, practicing picking up small objects, playing with playdough or putty, and trying lacing, threading, or stacking activities can help strengthen hand muscles, coordination, and control.✋

Making these activities part of everyday routines keeps learning fun, engaging, and meaningful! 🧸✨

Milestone Monday! ⭐️

This week we’re highlighting developmental milestones for toddlers 12–18 months!

At this stage, little ones are on the move and becoming more independent by the day. You may notice growth in both communication and motor skills, as they begin using more words, following simple directions, and exploring their environment through hands-on play. Toddlers are gaining confidence in how they move, interact with objects, and engage with the people around them.

It’s such a fun stage as toddlers develop new skills, build independence, and find more ways to connect with the world around them! ✨

🌟 Meet the Team 🌟

Let’s meet Emily Kuzilla, one of our speech therapists!

Emily is married to her high school sweetheart and is coming up on their 6 year wedding anniversary. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her twin nieces and nephews and making the most of family time together.

One of the things Emily loves most about being a speech therapist is the variety of settings she gets to work in. She supports children across outpatient pediatrics, daycare settings, schools, and ABA programs, which allows her to connect with and support kids in many different environments.

We’re excited to have Emily as part of our team and for the care she brings to the children and families she works with.✨
