Now Open: Cottage Surgical Clinics

Cottage Health is pleased to announce the opening of Cottage Surgical Clinics, a new specialty care clinic providing expert care in general, colorectal and bariatric surgery, with a focus on minimally invasive techniques.

The surgical team includes Dr. Farida Bounoua, Dr. David Thoman and Dr. Lexine Yurcho, all board-certified with advanced training in laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures.

Cottage Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew (Matt) Morgan, MBA, FHFMA, FACHE, as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective August 19, 2025.

With more than 20 years of healthcare financial leadership, Matt brings deep expertise in strategic alignment, data-driven decision-making, and operational excellence. He most recently served as CFO at Montage Health in Monterey.

In his new role, Matt will oversee all aspects of Cottage Health’s financial operations and serve as a key advisor to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.

Judi Brown led an active, peaceful life on the family ranch in Los Olivos, where daily walks with her dog were part of her routine. Though she had been living with a small aortic aneurysm, Judi felt strong and healthy.

During a routine visit, Judi earned the aneurysm had grown. Thanks to the swift, expert care of Cottage Health’s cardiovascular team, Judi underwent lifesaving surgery and avoided long-term complications.

“The care I received was outstanding,” Judi shares. “From the nurses to the entire staff, everyone was above and beyond what I could have hoped for.”

Registration is now open for Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp (JWSC), July 21–25 at UCSB!

JWSC is designed for youth athletes and young adults, ages 6-21, with physical disabilities who use a wheelchair, or could use a wheelchair, to participate in sports.

Camp is FREE. Transportation to the camp site, UC Santa Barbara Recreation Center, will be available from Carpinteria, Goleta, Lompoc, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and Ventura/Oxnard areas, for those who need it.

Volunteers Needed for Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital's Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp!

Join the Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp family and help campers 6-21 years old participate in wheelchair sports and activities including tennis, basketball, rugby, aquatics, hand cycling and more!

New and returning volunteers can apply online: cottagehealth.org/wheelchaircamp

Help is needed Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Volunteers must be 14 years or older. Minimum of three-day volunteer commitment. The deadline to apply is June 16.

“I am so grateful for the excellent, attentive care Remy received at Cottage. Everyone – nurses, doctors and therapists – was amazing!” – Lisa, Remy’s mother

Earlier this year, 16-month-old Remy began having trouble breathing and was rushed to the emergency department at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he was diagnosed with RSV and hospitalized. He received treatment and care that included respiratory therapy and oxygen. Day by day, Remy began feeling better.

He was able to return home after a five-day stay at Cottage Children’s Medical Center and soon bounced back to his active toddler life of running, playing and enjoying his picture books, which included a favorite that he received from the Cottage Child Life team.
