Dr. Kris Radcliff is an orthopaedic spine surgeon whose training and experience include the latest techniques in cervical, thoracic and lumbar procedures. He is trained and certified in use of both of the FDA approved cervical artificial disc replacements, has performed thousands of minimally invasive spinal procedures as well as the standard surgeries for treating virtually all spinal pathology. Dr. Radcliff's primary surgical interests lie in treating degenerative neck and back problems with the least amount of surgical trauma possible. Through the use of minimally invasive, muscle sparing microscopic techniques, Dr. Radcliff is able to perform many procedures that required a lengthy hospital stay in the past but now as outpatient or with just a one night observation stay.
Dr. Radcliff is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Radcliff graduated from Jesuit High School in New Orleans. After completing his undergraduate work at Harvard, he attended Duke University School of Medicine for medical school. Dr. Radcliff did a year of basic science research at UCLA during his third year of Medical School. From there Dr. Radcliff completed a five year orthopaedic surgery residency in Houston, Texas at the Baylor College of Medicine, including Ben Taub General Hospital (trauma), the Michael E. Debakey VA Medical Center, Texas Children's Hospital, The Methodist Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, and electives at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Radcliff completed a long term fellowship in spinal surgery under the direction of Dr. Alexander Vaccaro, Dr. Todd Albert, and Dr. Alan Hilibrand. Dr. Radcliff then joined his former fellowship mentors in practice at the Rothman Institute. Dr. Radcliff then moved to the Atlantic City, NJ area where he has practiced and treated a wide variety of spinal problems and traumatic injuries.
Dr. Radcliff is always exploring non-surgical options to manage your spine problem before he recommends surgical intervention. Like all spine surgeons, Dr. Radcliff’s most successful treatments involve those associated with arm or leg pain that comes from nerve compression in the spine, whether it be from disk degeneration, bone spur formation, disk herniation or other compressive pathology within the spinal canal.
Dr. Radcliff is a member of The Society of Lateral Access Surgery (SOLAS®) and certified in The Better Way Back™ program and XLIF® Surgical Procedure. Dr. Radcliff is on the Executive Advisory Board of the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine surgery.
In addition to treating patients directly, Dr. Kris Radcliff instructs the next generation of medical professionals as an Associate Professor in the Departments of Orthopedic and Neurological surgery at Thomas Jefferson University.
Dr. Radcliff is an international expert on diagnosis, nonsurgical, and surgical treatment of spinal conditions. Dr. Radcliff is keenly interested in contributing and advancing the field of spinal surgery through research. Dr. Radcliff has authored over one hundred peer-reviewed publications, thirty textbook chapters on diagnosis and treatment of spinal conditions, and has won numerous research awards.
Dr. Radcliff is regular invited faculty at national and international meetings about safely and efficiently performing spine surgery, techniques and complication avoidance in minimally invasive spine surgery, orthopedic basic science, and spine trauma and spinal cord injury. Dr. Radcliff is Chairman of the North American Spine Society Young Surgeons Forum and a past President of the Association for Collaborative Spinal Research. Dr Radcliff is a member of the Cervical Spine Research Society and a candidate member of the Scoliosis Research Society. Dr. Radcliff is also an active member of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery and Lumber Spine Research Society. Dr. Radcliff is a diplomate (board certified) of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
