Virgie “Viola” Graves, age 95 of Science Hill, KY, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Jean Waddle Care Center. Viola was born on March 16,1931 in Pulaski County, KY, the daughter of Odus Reynolds and Mary Lena Cottrell Reynolds. She worked at Lorillard, a cigarette factory in Louisville, KY for 30 years. Viola was a member of Eubank Church of Christ. She loved to garden, decorate for all the seasons, crocheting ….. she enjoyed traveling, she always welcomed company, and she liked to do the “talking”!

She leaves behind to mourn her passing, her daughters, Linda Norris (Zack) of Science Hill, KY, Carolyn Sue Woody and Mary Cody; several grandchildren including two special granddaughters, Michelle Whitaker (Brian) and Melissa McIntosh (Bruce); two brothers, Jack Reynolds of OH and Arnold Reynolds (Toby) of TN; her sisters, Remonia Spoonamore (Glenn) of Stanford, KY and Ora Faulconer of FL; extended family members, nieces and nephews, church family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Odus and Mary Lena Reynolds; Viola was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Graves; her brothers, Don Reynolds and Beecher Reynolds; her sister, Josephine Coffey; and her sister in law, Kathy Reynolds.

We would like to express our appreciation to her wonderful caregivers, Thelma Mercer, Julie Harris and Julie Coffey who lovingly cared for our mother… “Thank you”!

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home , 1046 West Hwy 80, Somerset, KY 42503. Her funeral service will follow on May 5th at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Robbins officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery, Willailla, KY.

Ron Hail, age 86, was born on September 9, 1939, in Pulaski, Kentucky, to the late Wilson and Obera Hail. He passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, at the Jean Waddle Care Center at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

He faced the loss of his parents at a young age and was lovingly raised by his sister Joyce and her husband Wilbert Mize, whose care and support helped shape the man he became. He attended Shopville High School, graduating in 1957. During his school years, he played basketball and met the love of his life, a beautiful cheerleader, Wilma Gail Adkins. The two were united in marriage on June 23, 1961, sharing many devoted years together.

Ron worked faithfully for many years at Lear Siegler as a Quality Control Manager in Somerset and later commuted to Morristown, TN. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.

He is survived by his sons, Scottie (Teresa) Hail, Sammy (Rhonda) Hail, Shannon (Laura) Hail, and John Patrick (Brittany) Hail; grandchildren Christopher (Ciara) Hail, Cameron (Sidney) Hail, and Kaleigh (Kyle) Bush of Somerset, KY, Allie Hail of Louisville, KY, and Olivia Hail of Somerset, KY; and great-grandchildren Avery and Reagan Hail. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A devoted family man, Ron was also an avid sports fan who especially loved University of Kentucky basketball. He enjoyed bowling, playing basketball and treasured every moment spent supporting and watching his sons and grandchildren in their activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Curtis Wilson Hail and Orville Hail, wife Wilma Gail Adkins Hail, sister Marilyn Joyce Hail Mize, brother-in-law Wilbert Mize, and nephews Joseph Whitaker, Michael Mize and Brandon Coffey.

Ron had known and loved his Savior for many years. He was a Charter member of Harmony Fellowship Baptist Church and attended Immanuel Baptist Church until his health declined. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his devotion to family, and his enduring faith. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026 from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Immanuel Baptist Church, 808 Bourne Avenue, Somerset, KY. His funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at the Adkins Family Cemetery in Dahl, KY. Pallbearers will be Scottie Hail, Sammy Hail, Shannon Hail, John Hail, Christopher Hail and Cameron Hail.

Donald Bruce Hamel, age 72, of Burnside, KY, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Don was born on January 9, 1954 to the late Bruce A. Hamel and Beatrice Jones Hamel. He worked as a welder for over 40 years at Cornett’s Machine Shop. Don enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Kay Mayfield, whom he married on October 30, 1982 in Burnside, KY; two sons, Donald “Scott” (Jessica) Hamel of Taylor Mill, KY and Jason Kelsay (Amanda) Hamel of Independence, KY; two brothers, Richard A. (Suzanne) Hamel of Covington, KY and James Hamel of Covington, KY; five grandchildren, Nicholas Scott Hamel of Independence, KY, Kelsay Hamel of Newport, KY, Jackson Hamel, Liam Hamel and Josie Hamel all of Independence, KY; and other family, friends and neighbors.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce (Beatrice) Hamel.

Gregory L. “Greg” Dalton, age 67 of Somerset, KY passed away on Tuesday, April 28,2026 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington, KY. Greg was born on March 14,1959 in Greenville, SC, the son of Herman Edward Dalton and Joyce Malina Routin Dalton. Greg worked in Law Enforcement in various capacities and in different areas of KY. He proudly served our country in the US Army. He enjoyed UK Basketball, Nascar and fishing, fishing and fishing!

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Haynes Dalton whom he married on October 13, 2011 in Somerset; his children, Ashley Dalton Parrish (Scott) of Westfield, IN, Kimberly Michelle Brumley and Stephen Lee Dalton, both of Somerset; his stepson, Steven “Andrew” Ham (Ashley) of Moncks Corner, SC; grandchildren, Skylen Brumley, Keaton Brumley, Lyric Brumley, Addison Parrish, Tripp Ham and Aspen Dalton; his brother, Edward A. Dalton (Christy); his sister, Linda G. Dalton Edwards (R.C. Emerson) of Somerset; his nephew, Tyler Dalton of Atlanta, GA; special friend, Harold Barlow (Kathy); and his pet cat, “Ally Cat”.

In addition to his parents, Herman E. Dalton and Joyce Dalton Carter; Greg was preceded in death by his stepson, Scott “Anthony” Ham; and his brother-in-law, John W. Edwards.

Nancy Sue Stapleton Floyd was born on February 1, 1935, in Jenkins, Kentucky, to the late Troy and Ollie Stapleton. She went to her heavenly reward to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, April 25, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Nancy was a long-time and faithful member of First Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky, where she served with dedication.

Nancy was independent and driven from a young age. She graduated from Eubank High School and went on to earn a degree from Nashville Business College. While working at Eagle Express, she met the love of her life, James Clarence Floyd. Nancy
married Clarence on May 3, 1958, in Eubank, Kentucky, and together they shared nearly 69 years of marriage.

Nancy was known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor and brought a lot of laughter to the people she loved. She was a skilled quilter and gardener who cherished tending her two large gardens each year. If you walked into her home, you were sure to
be welcomed, looked after, and invited to sit down to a home-cooked meal.

A natural athlete, Nancy was an avid bowler who competed successfully for many years in the Somerset Briar Bowl leagues. She was also a talented softball player, known in her day as a powerful home run hitter for the First Baptist Church women’s team in the
YMCA league. Nancy enjoyed following University of Kentucky basketball, Cincinnati Reds baseball, and especially cherished any activity involving her sons and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love and presence will be deeply missed.

Nancy is survived by her husband, James Clarence Floyd of Somerset, Kentucky; her two sons, Dr. Thomas G. Floyd (Cecilia) of Somerset, Kentucky, and Dr. Michael A. Floyd (Dawn) of Nicholasville, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Morgan Floyd (Miguel), Jonathan Floyd (Meredith), and Nathaniel Floyd of Nicholasville, Kentucky; and four great-grandchildren, Gareth Floyd, Delaney Floyd, Teagan Floyd, and Brynn Floyd. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Ollie Stapleton of Eubank, Kentucky; her brother, James W. Stapleton (Fern) of Eubank, Kentucky; and her sisters, Eunice Stapleton Moore (Bobby) of Frankfort, Kentucky, Betty Stapleton Osborne (Robert) of Grayling, Michigan, and Peggy Stapleton Estes (Gibby) of Somerset,
Kentucky.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 128 N. Main Street, Somerset, KY 42501.

Her Funeral service will follow on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be the Honor Guard.

Norma was born on November 28, 1954, the daughter of Edgar Coner and Nannie Elizabeth Morris Coner. She married Ronnie Lee Decker on October 5, 1972 in Pickett County, TN and they have shared life for 53 years. Norma embraced the role of homemaker, wife and mother… her family was her life and she lived for her husband, kids and grands.

Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Decker; her son Daniel Decker; and her daughter , Elizabeth Decker, all of Burnside; her grandchildren, Heather Mink (Craig), Joshua Johnson, Taniel Allen (John), and Nathaniel Decker; one great grandchild, Kade Johnson; one brother, Leonard Coner of Somerset; one sister, Cheryl Vito of Somerset; extended family members, neighbors and friends who are saddened by her passing.

Margaret Ann Burns, age 97 of Somerset, KY passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at her residence. Margaret was born on May 4, 1928 in Pulaski County, the daughter of Riley Black and Bonnie Girdler Black. She married James Robert “Bob” Burns on February 28, 1945 at Jamestown, KY and they shared 60 years of marriage prior to his passing on May 10, 2005. Margaret was a longtime member and the oldest member of Campground Baptist Church. She worked at Palm Beach Clothing for over 30 years. She was an amazing cook and she loved her children and grandchildren.

Survivors included her children, one son, Robert Lee “ Bobby” Burns (Patty); and her daughter, Judy A. Gibson, both of Somerset; grandsons, Jared Gibson (Caitlyn) of Middlesboro, KY and Blake Gibson (Autumn) of Somerset; great grandchildren, Caroline Gibson, Andrew Gibson and Matthew Gibson; brothers, Charles Black of Newcastle, IN; sisters, and Garnella Howell of OH; extended family, church family and neighbors who are saddened by her passing.

Gloria June McClure, age 74, of Lebanon, Ohio and formerly of Pulaski County, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at her residence.

Born on June 1, 1951 in Somerset, Kentucky, Gloria was the daughter of the late Coy Oather Price and Zada Estep Price. She was a devoted member of Serenity Baptist Church in West Chester, Ohio. Gloria dedicated many years of service to Ford Motor Company, where she worked in production until her retirement. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, who were the center of her life.

Gloria is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Scotty Ann (Philip) Cooper of Mason, Ohio; her grandchildren, Katie (Zach) Graves and Adam Cooper; her brother, Michael (Pearl) Price of Science Hill, Kentucky; her sister, Jane (Prentice) Dotson of Somerset, Kentucky; her brother-in-law, Robert Waddle of Somerset, Kentucky; as well as several nieces and nephews, and many extended family members, friends, and neighbors who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore McClure, whom she married in Lebanon, Ohio on June 1, 1993 and passed away on October 9, 2022; and her sisters and brother-in-law, Linda Waddle and Jill (Wayneth) Norfleet.

Denton “Denny” Eugene Eller, age 77, of Science Hill, KY, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Denny was born on August 20, 1948 in Amboy, IL to the late Earle E. Eller and Erma Blanche Gentry Eller. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Denny enjoyed hunting, fishing and football. He loved to make knives. Denny especially loved spending time with his family and grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Colyer of Science Hill; two daughters, Cary (Robert) Busack of Somerset and Kimberly Mcpheron (Russell Miller) of Somerset; five grandchildren, Brandy Dix, Matria Haynes, Tyler Walker, Ashlee Douglass and Jacob Mcpheron; nine great grandchildren, Xavier Dix, Sascha Dix, Keeley Dix, Lucas Dix, Matthew Paquette, Vincent Poe, Gabrielle Harris, Rob Walker and Kim Walker; one sister, Sharon (Richard) Lundquist; two nephews, Seth and Ethan; and one niece, Audra.

In Loving Memory of Roger Smith
July 28, 1945 — April 18, 2026

Hollis “Roger” Smith was born on July 28, 1945, in the heart of the Bluegrass State—Somerset, Kentucky. Growing up in Pulaski County during the post-war era, Roger was shaped by the values of hard work, community, love for family, and the rugged beauty of being a Kentucky farmer, teacher, coach, son, brother, husband and Dad.

He attended and played basketball for Shopville High School, then he went on to get his college degree at Sue Bennett College, Cumberland College, and Eastern KY University, where he earned his Masters and Rank One. Roger proudly served our country the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman and the US Army Reserves.

He taught Chemistry and Biology and Coached Basketball at Shopville High School. He also taught at Shopville Middle School and Northern Middle School. Roger attended Flat Lick Baptist Church, Northside Church and First Christian Church of Mt Vernon. One of Roger’s biggest joys of life was attending football, basketball, tennis, and volleyball games of his grandkids.

Roger had a life that was well lived and was known by those close to him as a man who was tough as nails, but soft hearted and kind natured, never met a stranger, and had a passion for farming, sports, and raising his kids. Whether he was helping a former student find a college home, teaching his kids hard work ethic, talking to people at restaurants, or jumping into a 3 on 3 basketball game at a park, his God given ability to connect with people allowed him to bless and touch many lives. Roger engaged in his local community by helping on other farms, making his roots in Somerset a central part of his life.

Roger was the beloved son of Hollis Crittenden and June Owens Smith and a brother to Elaine, Portia, Byron, and Rick Smith. His legacy lives on through his family, who remember him for his tough but gentle nature, his famous quotes and words of wisdom, his love for traditional country music and his love for his church, and the love of his life, Mirian Evona Smith, as he provided the ultimate example of what it meant to be a loving, providing Husband and Father.

He is survived by:
• His children: Sophia June Smith Foree and Macy Foree, Roger Brandon Smith, Amber Nacole Miller Thurman and Jonathan Thurman, and Matthew Alan and Brandy Smith.

• His grandchildren: Sarah Chilton Foree Lewis(28) and Shane Lewis, Noah Smith(26) and Emma Foree, Asher Randall Smith(22), Griffin Thomas Smith(18), Gage Thomas Miller(18), Jude Crittenden Miller(17), Lucy Grace Thurman(16), Kinsley Layne Smith(17), Matthew “Beckham” Smith(15), and Oliver Hollis Smith(10).

Steven was born on March 24, 1963 in Dayton, OH, the son of Charles Lee Lightcap and Gladys Marie Emrick. Steven worked as an auto mechanic. He loved Lake Cumberland where he enjoyed boating and fishing and he loved spending time with his son, Conner.

Survivors include his son, Conner Lightcap of Bronston, KY; Jennifer Bronstrup, the mother of his son; and two sisters, Judy (Dave) Vervalin of Tipp City, OH and Donna Lightcap of Burnside; extended family members, nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends who are saddened by his passing.

Shirley Ann Gifford, age 88, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at Laurel Heights Nursing Home in London. Shirley was born on May 9, 1937 in Cumberland, KY to the late Sidney Irvin and Nannie Clay Irvin. Shirley was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She loved Bluegrass Gospel music and collecting antique furniture. On June 18, 1954, Shirley married her husband, Dale Gifford and they shared sixty four years of marriage prior to his passing on October 18, 2018.

She is survived by one son, Dale (Dana) Gifford of Somerset; one daughter, Gail (Michael) Isaacs of Lincolnton, NC; one sister, JoAnn Spence (Dale) of Carlisle, OH; four grandchildren, Brandon Isaacs, Erica Wheeler, Adam Gifford and Olivia Bland; and six great grandchildren, Cade, Lillie, and Cameron Wheeler, Edie and Mara Gifford, and Amma Bland.

In addition to her parents, Sidney and Nannie Clay Irvin, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Gifford; three brothers, Arnold Irvin, Earl Irvin, and Ronald Irvin; and four sisters, Jean Waddle, Ony Lee Reece, Ova Bullock and Jewell Hall.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 17,2026 from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will follow on Friday, April 17th at 5:00 pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Shepherd officiating. Burial will be at Somerset Cemetery.
