Mark Allan Smith, age 37 of Somerset, KY, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at his residence. Mark was born on April 6, 1988 at Somerset, the son of Carthel Smith and Mary Haynes Smith. Despite Mark’s limitations due to cerebral palsy, he was loving and a bright light in our lives. Mark was a 2009 graduate of Southwestern High School. He enjoyed cartoons, game shows, stuffed animals and listening to music.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Smith; two sisters, April Budd (Tim) of Berea, KY and Ashley Bradley of Somerset; his nieces and nephews, Autumn, Loren, L.T. and Makenna Budd; Zackaury and Tristan Brumley; and Julianna Bradley; extended family members and friends who are saddened by his passing.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Carthel Smith; paternal grandparents, Merlin and Dorothy Smith; and maternal grandparents, Billy and Lavonne Haynes.

Visitation for Mark will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Rogers officiating. Burial will be at the Tarter Cemetery at Nancy, KY.

John Edward Cummings, age 43, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

John was born on November 21, 1982 in Germany to the late Lon Dale and Ingrid Cummings. He worked in the construction business. John loved his Jeep, mudding, being outdoors and watching the Philadelphia Eagles. He enjoyed music, collecting watches and sunglasses. John loved spending time with family and friends. Most of all, loved spending time with his grandson, Sammy.

He is survived by his wife, Justan Maria Vernatter, whom he married on March 12, 2026 in Eubank; one son, Jordan Robinette of Somerset; two daughters, Kimber Heath and Zoey Holder of Somerset; one grandchild, Samuel Collins; and friends who are saddened by his passing.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Lon (Ingrid) Cummings.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.

Arthur Wayne Dawson, age 79, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Arthur was born on October 17, 1946 in Ft. Smith, AR to the late Rubin E. Dawson and Lucille Temple Dawson. He retired as a Professor from Somerset Community College after 30 years. Arthur was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching baseball and playing the guitar and singing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Zupancic Dawson of Somerset; one daughter, Amanda Faith Dawson of Somerset, KY; one brother, Erwin “Dale” Dawson of Ft. Smith, AR; and other family members and friends who are saddened by his passing.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Rubin (Lucille) Dawson.

To honor his memory, there will be a Graveside Service on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Southern Oaks Cemetery with Bro. Ron Shepherd officiating.

Toni Monroe Ray, age 81 of Somerset, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Jean Waddle Care Center. Toni was born on August 24, 1944 at Middlesboro, KY, the son of Roy Lee Ray and Helen Irene Bales Ray. He married Margie Helen Dillman Ray on April 16, 1956 at Jonesville, VA and they have shared life for 61 years.

Tonie worked in construction and was a member of Indiana Laborers Welfare Union.

There will be a Graveside Service on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 11:00 am Mt. Zion Cemetery, 1800 KY Hwy 1676, Science Hill, KY, with Bro. Gary Clark officiating.

Robert Lee Calhoun, Sr., age 73, of Burnside, KY, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the University of KY Healthcare.

Robert was born on December 22, 1952 in Nancy, KY to the late Harold “Taft” Calhoun and Renda Redmond Calhoun. He enjoyed working on cars, playing guitar and shooting guns. Robert loved making people laugh, sitting on the porch smoking ci******es and drinking coffee.

He is survived by two sons, Robert Lee Calhoun, Jr. and Micky R Calhoun; his grandchildren, Krista Calhoun, Alexis McDonald, Lily Calhoun, Justin Beach, Joseph Miller and Connor Burton; one great grandchild, Mateo Palmer; one brother, Albert “Buck” Calhoun; brother-in-law, Wayne Molden; and sister-in-law, Wanda Buxton. He is also survived by several special nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Calhoun; one son, Joseph “Josie” Calhoun; one daughter-in-law, Ashley Weatherford Calhoun; and his siblings, Myrtle Dunsmore, Lucy “Ovaline” Flynn and James Calhoun.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Lindsey Burton, age 93, of Science Hill, KY, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Lindsey was born on September 29, 1932 at Naomi, KY, to Arthur and Tressa Burton. He married Earlene Ard on November 27, 1951.

After working a short time in Dayton, OH, Lindsey and Earlene settled on their farm in Science Hill, where they lived and farmed for the rest of their lives. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church for forty years and has been a member at Eubank Baptist Church for twenty years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he appreciated the beauty of God’s creation and expressed it in his love of working on the farm, raising cattle and gardening. He also loved sharing that with others – taking his grandchildren and great grandchildren around the farm and sharing the harvest from his garden with friends and neighbors.

Lindsey is survived by his son, Darrell (Glenda) Burton of Somerset; three grandchildren, Stacey Burton, Monica (Clay) Hall, and Eric (Kelly) Burton; twenty one great grandchildren, Austin (Makenzie) Jones; Aidan Baker; Savannah, Mary-Grace, Braidon, Susanah, Amy, Angel, Gabe, and Malakai Burton, My’Chaz and Mi’Yonah Hickman-Shipp; Abigail, Catherine, Elisabeth, Samuel, Silas, and Lydia Hall; Willa Kate, Sullivan, and Milo Burton; several nieces and nephews, extended family, church family, neighbors, and friends who are saddened by his passing.

Along with his parents, Arthur and Tressa Burton; and his wife, Earlene Ard Burton; Lindsey was preceded in death by four brothers, Henley, Linville, Larry, and Thurman (Betty) Burton; and three sisters, Geneva (Bert) Deatherage, Areva (G.C.) Gosser, and Leila (Eugene) Tarter.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation for the kindness and care he received during his stay there….. “Thank you!”

Bobbie Jo Holt, age 92, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Bobbie Jo was born on October 12, 1933, in Somerset, Kentucky, to the late Emmett Gilliland and Ethel McKenzie Gilliland. She was proud to be a member of the first graduating class of Pulaski County High School in 1951, a milestone she always cherished.

Bobbie Jo dedicated many years of service as a bookkeeper for the City of Somerset. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and remained deeply involved in her community throughout her life. She was an active member of the Pulaski County Historical Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), and she had a true passion for researching her family’s genealogical history. Her love for preserving the past reflected her deep appreciation for family and heritage.

Known throughout the Somerset community, Bobbie Jo will be remembered for her warm and jovial personality, her generous heart, and the genuine kindness she showed to everyone she met. She treasured her family, valued her friendships, and found great joy in being involved in the community she loved so dearly.

Bobbie Jo leaves behind her special friend and partner in life, Paul “Dink” Hinkle; her nieces and nephews, Suzanne Richie Kidd, Melissa Horton Oliver, and Curtis Gilliland, Jr., all of Somerset; Ernest Gilliland of Burnside, Kentucky; Michael Wells of Quincy, Florida; Nancy Wells Ottaway of Crestview, Florida; and Richard Wells of Whitley City, Kentucky. She is also survived by several beloved great-nieces and great-nephews, along with her cherished church family, neighbors, and many dear friends who will deeply miss her presence.

In addition to her parents, Bobbie Jo was preceded in death by one infant son, Madison Emmett Holt; her brothers and sisters, Curtis Gilliland, Dean G. Wells, Lucille G. Horton, Maxine G. Hinkle, and Linville E. Gilliland “Junior”; two nephews, Gene Gordon Wells and Frank Richie, Jr.; her niece, Sandra Hinkle Griffith; and her great-niece, Lisa Jo Kidd.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, Kentucky 42503. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. David Pendley officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.

Eric Bruner, age 59 of Somerset, passed away on March 9, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Eric was born on December 19, 1966 at Sydney, OH, the son of Mayer Lewis Peters and Linda Darnell Peters Bruner. Eric worked in Hotel Maintenance. He loved spending time outdoors. Eric had a very loving, loyal heart. He was dearly loved and he will be greatly missed.

Eric is survived by his wife, Amanda Gail Lawson Bruner; three sons; his brother, Frank Lewis Peters of Somerset; his sister, Michele Lynette Peters of Apache Junction, AZ; several grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Matthew Michael Brodrick, 53, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Matthew was born on July 10, 1973, at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, to Sherril Michael Brodrick and Louise Ann Jones Brodrick. He was a Christian and of the Baptist faith, holding close the values that shaped his life and character.

For many years, Matthew faithfully worked in the Deli Department at Walmart, where he was known for his steady presence and kind spirit. Outside of work, he embraced life with creativity and enthusiasm. Music was one of his greatest passions, and he was an accomplished drummer who found joy and expression behind his drums. He also had a love for antiquing and rock hunting with his mother—simple moments that brought him great happiness and lasting memories.

Matthew had a deep affection for animals and a natural talent for working on cars. Artistic at heart, he enjoyed making jewelry and expressing himself through his creativity. Those who knew him will remember his gentle nature, his talents, and the love he shared with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving parents, Michael and Louise Brodrick of Somerset; his two daughters, Julia Lynn Siren of Niceville, Florida, and Lucien Indigo Myres of Somerset; his sister, Michelle Ann Patton of Freeport, Florida; and many extended family members and friends who mourn his passing and will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

It may bring comfort to know that through the compassionate work of Network of Hope, Matthew’s generosity will continue to touch many lives. Through his decision to give the gift of donation, he will be able to help multiple individuals and families. Even in loss, Matthew’s legacy will endure in the lives he has so selflessly helped.

Hazel Marie Burton, age 101 of Erlanger, KY, formerly of Nancy, KY, passed away on Sunday February 22, 2026 at Baptist Village Care Center of Erlanger. She was born on October 1, 1924 in Faubush, KY and was the daughter of Lloyd McClendon and Leva Mills McClendon. She married her husband, Thelmer Burton, on April 25, 1942 in Jamestown, KY. They shared life for 58 years until his passing on May 25, 2000. Hazel embraced the role of wife and mother, and worked at the Lake Cumberland 4-H Camping Center for 20 years. She was of Baptist faith and a member of Pottershop Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Roy (Patricia) of Burlington, KY; her daughter, Leva (Thomas) of Montgomery, OH; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Jason, Jared and Greg; and five great grandchildren, Wade, Ella, Madi, Leva and Madison; extended family members, and caretakers who are saddened by her passing.

In addition to her parents, Lloyd and Leva McClendon; and her husband, Thelmer Burton; Hazel was preceded in death by her great grandson, Warren; her brothers, Arnold, Arvel and Hollis McClendon; and her sisters, Bertha Johnson, Anna Foster, Clarie Johnson and Fannie Johnson.

Dorothy C. Hughes, beloved daughter of the late Robert and Ruth Barnes, was born in Somerset, Kentucky on February 5, 1931. She departed this life on February 23, 2026, at the age of 95, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength.

Dorothy attended Ferguson High School, where she met Bobbie, her future husband, and the love of her life. They were united in marriage on January 3, 1948, and shared 77 wonderful years together — a beautiful testament to their enduring love and commitment.

Dorothy dearly loved her church family at Beacon Hill and was a faithful and devoted servant for as long as her health permitted. Her faith was evident in the way she lived her life — with kindness, humility, and grace. She fully embraced her role as a homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. A talented seamstress like her mother before her, Dorothy found joy in sewing, cross-stitching, quilting, and a wide variety of handicrafts. She lovingly prepared delicious meals for those she cherished and took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens, where her green thumb was always on display.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Sandy (Jim) Evans of Somerset, Kentucky; her grandson, Benjamin Levi Evans of Somerset, Kentucky; her sister, Sharlene (Wayne) Eldridge; along with several nieces and nephews who will treasure her memory.
In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband, Bobbie Hughes, who preceded her in death on November 29, 2025, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joe Barnes and Jerry Barnes, and her sister, Irene Fox.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Hwy 80, Somerset, KY 42503.

Charles “Mike” Maybrier, age 65, of Somerset, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at his residence. Mike was born on March 23, 1960 at Somerset, KY, the son of Charles Wesley Maybrier and Lottie Warfield Maybrier. Mike was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He loved his church family at both Pleasant Hill and West Somerset. Cabinet making was his love and he was an extraordinary cabinet maker – he took great pride in his work. He loved the outdoors and he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughter, Erin Wesley (Charles) of Somerset; his grandchildren, Payton Wesley , Charlie Wesley, and Knox Wesley; his brothers, Jerry Maybrier (Patty) and Johnny Maybrier, both of Somerset, and Joe Maybrier (Judy) of Nancy; his sisters, Charlotte Sutton, Judy Ridner, and Dorothy Phelps, all of Somerset, Patty Eaton (Billy) and Karen Keeney (Gary); and Loretta Morris, all of Nancy; a host of nieces and nephews, extended family members, church family, neighbors and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Charles and Lottie Maybrier; Mike was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Tommy Sutton, Kenny Ridner and Harvey Phelps; and one sister-in-law, Becky Maybrier.
