10/11/2025

Joseph Peter Adelmeyer made his way to the pearly gates on October 9, 2025, in Somerset, KY. Joe is survived by his wife, Cheryl, children Katie (John) and Joe (Mary) and grandchildren, Cody (Abbie), Dillon (Mary), Kristen (Kyle), and Alexa (Ian), and great grandchildren, Cohen, James, Mathieu, Isla, and Ellie.

His life began in Little Falls, MN, the eldest son and one of five brothers. Throughout his life he shared many stories of his childhood and the characters that lived in his small town. His father left the family when Joe was a young teen, and Joe took on the role as protector and father figure for his younger brothers.

Baseball was the name of the game in the Adelmeyer family. Joe loved the game of baseball and instilled that love into his brothers and then his son. He played semi pro ball for the Little Falls Red Sox, a team managed by his uncle Jerry Wilczek, an ex-minor league 2nd baseman. The players on this team were paid per game. The Adelmeyer men became proficient ball players under Joe’s tutelage and developed a great love and respect for the game.

Upon graduation from high school, he attended the University of Minnesota, originally to obtain a law degree, but settled on a degree in Social Work. He drove a cab and did odd jobs to pay for his way through school.

He went to work as a social worker in International Falls, MN, where he met his future wife, Sharon Growette. While dating, Joe was accepted at the University of Hawaii and flew from the coldest place in the country to paradise. He came back to marry Sharon, and then they both moved to Honolulu, where he obtained his Masters in Social Work and eventually became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

They then began an odyssey of moving around the country, as Joe had gotten a job with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. For the next 12 years they and their young family lived in: Mankato, MN, Juneau, AK, St. Cloud, MN, Somerset, KY, Eagle Butte, SD, San Carlos, AZ, Fort Hall, ID. Finally, they decided to return to Juneau, AK, where Joe got a job with the State, running the mental health clinics in SE Alaska. After 23 years of marriage, he and Sharon divorced and Joe retired from his job at age 51, and moved to MN to be closer to his family.

In St. Cloud, MN, he met Patti Nemec, and they married. They lived happily, until she passed away from ALS. He found love again when he met and started dating Cheryl Rupp. She was his best friend and loving companion. They married and moved back to Juneau, AK, for a few years. Then they relocated to Somerset, KY. He and Cheryl lived quietly in Somerset, enjoying their dogs, participating in outdoor activities, and spending time together.

Joe will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, his caring ways and tough guy attitude, while having the heart of a teddy bear. He always had his family’s back and could be counted on to offer support, guidance and sound advice. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye.

The family requests any donations be made to The ALS Association in memory of Patti Adelmeyer.
