From an interfacility transfer at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital by day to the skies with Wayne County EMS at night—yesterday was all about teamwork.

Our crew completed a daytime transfer followed by a late-night mission alongside Wayne County EMS. We’re so grateful for the incredible hospital staff and EMS crew who help us provide the best care possible every step of the way.

Two missions, one strong partnership 🚁

Our PHI Air Medical crew had the opportunity to work alongside McCreary County EMS on two separate flights, showcasing the kind of teamwork that makes a real difference for our patients.

A big shoutout to Craig and Andrew for their excellent care and dedication on both runs—your hard work does not go unnoticed. And thank you to Craig for giving us this great photo!

Both patients were safely transported to higher levels of care, one to UT and the other to UKMC. From the ground to the air, this is what collaboration in emergency medicine looks like.

🚁🩸 Prehospital blood saves lives.

At PHI Air Medical – Somerset, we’re proud to carry two units of O positive whole blood on every flight. Having blood products available before a patient even reaches the hospital can make a life-saving difference for patients experiencing severe trauma, hemorrhage, or shock.

Early blood transfusion in the prehospital setting helps restore oxygen delivery, supports circulation, and can significantly improve outcomes for critically ill and injured patients. Instead of waiting until arrival at the hospital, our crews are able to begin this vital treatment in the air or at the scene, giving patients a better chance during those critical early moments.

This capability is made possible through strong partnerships with blood centers, hospitals, and our local EMS agencies who work alongside us to bring the highest level of care to our communities.

At PHI Air Medical-Somerset, carrying whole blood is just one more way we’re committed to providing advanced, life-saving care when minutes matter most.

A special shoutout to EMS crew members Julie and Michelle for their help and teamwork on this flight. Your dedication, professionalism, and willingness to jump in and support the mission truly make a difference for the patients we serve.

Yesterday brought some challenging weather, but today the sun is shining and the wind is blowing as we get back to doing what we do best. ☀️💨

Partnerships like the one we have with Russell County EMS mean so much to us. Working side-by-side with providers who care as deeply about their community as you do is something we never take for granted. Thank you for everything you do, and for being such an important part of the team.

Yesterday kept our crews moving across the region as we worked alongside several of our hospital partners including Wayne County Hospital, Baptist Health Corbin, and Pikeville Medical Center. It was a busy day in the skies, but teamwork on the ground and in the air makes every mission possible.

Whether it’s the middle of the night or just before sunrise, our crews are always ready to answer the call.

Our crew at PHI Air Medical completed two flights yesterday in partnership with Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, continuing our mission of delivering rapid critical care when it matters most.

These missions were especially meaningful as they were flown by an all-female Med crew during Women in Aviation Week, highlighting the dedication, skill, and leadership women bring to aviation and air medical transport every day.

Blue skies, calm winds, and another successful scene flight in partnership with Casey County EMS. Days like this are a reminder of how strong our community partnerships truly are and how much hard work goes into every call.
