Your metabolism isn’t just slowing down because of age, genetics, or because it’s “broken”

There’s a whole cascade of events that lead to a sluggish metabolism, and what it starts with is:

1. Not eating enough - whether that be intentionally staying in a calorie deficit in hopes of losing weight, or unintentionally not eating enough to fuel your body

2. Chronic stress on the body in some form - like daily high intensity workouts, a dysregulated nervous system, lack of quality sleep, type A go-go-go personality, etc

Castor oil packs are a super simple tool that can be added into your routine effortlessly to provide some gentle digestion and detoxification support 🙌🏻

Castor oil packs have been used for centuries to increase circulation and improve digestive concerns. Ricinoleic acid, the main component of castor oil, is highly anti-inflammatory and has amazing gut health benefits. Castor oil also contains the anti-inflammatory phytochemical, quercetin.

Little swaps go a long way! 🙌🏻

Do you pay attention to the ingredients in your favorite packaged snacks?

A few things that I try to stay away from as much as possible:

- inflammatory seed oils (canola, vegetable, soybean, safflower, sunflower oil)
- high amounts of added sugar (I like to keep snacks under 5g added sugar)
- sweeteners like high fructose corn syrup
- artificial colors (red 40, yellow 5, etc)

Ingredients & nutrition facts that I look for instead:

- whole food-based ingredients
- protein, fiber, & healthy fats for a lower glycemic index
- fat sources like olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, grass-fed butter & ghee
- sweetened with maple syrup, honey, stevia, or monk fruit
- gluten-free (because I prefer to eat gluten free most of the time)

Now, none of these swaps are perfect. Some of them still contain seed oils, or sweeteners that aren’t perfect 🤷🏼‍♀️

The goal is never to be absolutely perfect with nutrition - that’s unrealistic and unattainable. It’s about being aware of what we’re putting in our bodies and making informed decisions! 🔍

Little swaps here and there can make a big difference in how you feel 👏🏻 AND you still have the power to choose when you want to have those foods that aren’t “healthified”. It’s allllll about balance and awareness 🥰

What you’ve been told about acid reflux/heartburn is alllllll wrong 🔥❌

and unfortunately, the treatments you’ve been given to improve symptoms are only making the problem worse.

MOST of the time, heartburn/acid reflux is being caused by having too little stomach acid available to digest your food, rather than having too much stomach acid. Are there cases where too much stomach acid is the real problem? Sure! But it’s much less prevalent than we’ve been made to believe.

The antacid medications you’re taking (Prilosec, Tums, Pepcid, Nexium) probably DO help your acid reflux symptoms in the moment, but when you become reliant on them is where problems start to arise. 💊

These medications are further lowering your stomach acid, which can lead to a whole dumpster fire of long-term problems

Instead of masking the symptoms with medications and supplements, we need to dig deeper to find the root of what’s causing your acid reflux to truly eliminate the problem and achieve long-term symptom relief. 🔍

You shouldn’t have to avoid acidic foods and keep medications/supplements on hand for every time you eat! It’s not normal to not be digesting your food well 🙅🏼‍♀️

Supporting your nervous system is an extremely necessary, but extremely overlooked piece of the gut healing puzzle.

Your vagus nerve is a huge cranial nerve that directly connects your brain to your gut. The brain and the gut communicate through the vagus nerve, and unconscious functions of the gut are able to happen through the vagus nerve (digestion, motility, etc). 🧠

Ever been in anticipation for a presentation, tough conversation, or excitement for an event that gives you butterflies in your tummy? 🦋That’s your gut-brain connection doing its work!

Communication between the gut and the brain via the vagus nerve can get disrupted or weakened because of chronic stress, trauma, past head injuries, or even past food poisoning.

A weak vagus nerve could be the reason why:

💩You’re constipated

🦠Your SIBO keeps coming back

🧀You have food sensitivities

😓You’re anxious or depressed

Save this toolkit for later!! 🛠️

Listed above are some quick fixes for your constipation/diarrhea as well as some more long-term strategies to put in place to support your gut health and prevent constipation/diarrhea from happening in the future.

Remember - everyone’s specific symptoms are different, and the root cause of what’s causing those symptoms are also likely very different! So not all of these strategies will work for everyone.

If you’re doing all the right things and still nothing is relieving your irregular bowel movements, bloating, and food sensitivities long-term, it’s time to dig deeper to figure out the root cause of your symptoms.

Once you know the root cause, the plan of action to fix your symptoms for good becomes clear as day 💡

We’ve been chatting about mineral mocktails recently, but what do the macro minerals [potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium] specifically do in the body? ⬆️

Based on your unique symptoms and dietary needs, you might need to adjust the amounts of different ingredients you put into your mineral mocktails to get higher levels!

For example - for my constipated girlies, I recommend going heavier on the potassium [coconut water, aloe vera juice, cream of tartar] and getting more potassium from the foods you’ll see listed above.

If you tend to eat out a lot and eat packaged processed foods, you probably don’t need as much sodium in your mineral mocktails.

If you’re really stressed, get headaches frequently, and have trouble sleeping - you’ll want to hit that magnesium hard (gradually increasing to find your sweet spot, of course).

But, minerals don’t just come from mineral mocktails! You can get lots of minerals by focusing on the right macro-mineral rich foods [listed in the graphic! ⬆️]

📣 PRO TIP:
Potassium is absorbed better from food when there is also some sodium added, so add a sprinkle of sea salt to your fruit smoothie! 🧂🍓🍍
