We appreciate the service and dedication of our officers. Keep up the good work Officer Harris.
Dear Somerville Community,
As a Sergeant with the Somerville Police Department, I believe it is important to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our officers—especially those early in their careers.
After working a long fifteen-hour shift, during which Officer Harris made his first felony arrest and assisted a community member experiencing a mental health crisis, Officer Harris went above and beyond. The Priceville Police Department had initiated a traffic stop near I-65 and Alabama Highway 67 when an occupant of the vehicle fled on foot. Without hesitation, Officer Harris responded to assist. As information and resources were gathered, it became clear that the fleeing suspect had active warrants with the Madison County Sheriff's Office for probation violation on an attempted murder charge. Hours into the manhunt, Officer Harris located the suspect trying to conceal himself between two large rocks. He was able to hold the subject at gunpoint until other officers arrived to assist in the arrest.
I would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of our fellow law enforcement agencies, including the Priceville Police Department (Arresting Agency) , Falkville Police Department, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Aviation Unit, and Morgan County 911, for their teamwork in apprehending this violent offender. Their collective efforts highlight the importance of cooperation between agencies.
Thank you, Officer Harris, for representing the Somerville Police Department with integrity, courage, and professionalism. We are incredibly proud of you.
Sincerely,
Sgt. Aaron W. Anderson
