Effective today, Feb. 2, 2026, general visiting hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week, across RWJBarnabas Health’s adult acute-care hospitals.

RWJBarnabas Health has implemented standardized visiting hours to support a consistent, compassionate and patient- and family-centered care experience.

Exceptions may be granted when medically appropriate, including for patients in the ICU, end-of-life care, pediatric patients, disabled patients with caregivers, and participants in the care partner program.

Additional visiting hour guidelines apply to children’s hospitals, the Behavioral Health Center and the Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center.

Visiting hours for specific units may vary.

RWJUH Somerset will be conducting blood glucose and cholesterol screenings on Thursday, February 5, from 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the Tarantino Promenade.

$15 per person and includes total cholesterol, HDL, ratio and glucose.

🎉 Congratulations to our Physician and APP of the Fourth Quarter! 🎉

Please join us in celebrating Ray Birring, MD, and Jian Zhang, APN, for their outstanding dedication and exceptional care at RWJUH Somerset.

Dr. Birring is an exceptional physician who consistently goes above and beyond for his patients. He works tirelessly to ensure they receive the highest quality care and the best possible hospital experience. His dedication was especially evident during a particularly complex and prolonged admission involving both medical and social challenges. Recognizing the patient’s need for continuity, Dr. Birring advocated for a consistent care model, recommending that only two attending physicians manage the patient throughout the remainder of her stay. Despite the challenges, this thoughtful and patient-centered approach proved highly successful, ultimately enabling the care team to safely discharge the patient home.

Jian Zhang, APN, has been a trusted and constant presence on the hospital’s cardiac floors for more than 20 years. Each day, she ensures patients receive timely care and necessary testing while maintaining clear communication with referring physicians and interdisciplinary team members regarding the cardiology plan of care. In addition to her clinical excellence, Jian is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of providers, precepting nurse practitioner students from multiple programs across New Jersey. Diligent, dependable, and compassionate, she works tirelessly to support and advocate for our cardiac patients.

Make plans to be at Bridgewater Commons on February 14 for the Go Red Fashion Show and cheer on our very own Dr. Eshan Patel!

Dr. Patel, a hematologist/oncologist with RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group, cares for patients at RWJUH Somerset’s Steeplechase Cancer Center and will be taking the runway alongside heart attack survivors. In his work, he helps oncology patients identify and closely monitor their risk for developing heart issues following cancer treatment.
