We had a brain fart. Allison is teaching community class tomorrow and Zia teaches next Saturday. So!
Don't miss her. And bring your friends! You'll be well cared for by our resident aquarist...

In her day job, she's a professional aquarist (meaning she takes care of fish! at the New England Aquarium). Her focus is often on the details of animal care that most people don’t even realize exist. Through her work, she's come to appreciate that as humans we often take our own complex needs for granted. That appreciation is something she tries to bring into her classes, always offering a gentle encouragement to explore and take what is truly needed over what is expected. Her goal as a teacher is to facilitate a space where all students feel welcome to grow their own practice and to learn about themselves without judgement.

As for her own practice, she began attending yoga classes as a way to calm anxiety and practice emotional regulation. And though she approached yoga with trepidation and skepticism...where she thought she'd find judgement she found a supportive community. Over months, and then years, that community helped her learn to be confident in her own practice, to play, to be curious, and to challenge herself. That consistency and patience helped her find strength, balance and flexibility she never thought she possessed. But even more important was that through the physical practice she found a way to focus her mind and regulate her nervous system. (Who doesn't need that right now?!?!)

So come tomorrow and take whatever you need and find a peaceful landing place for compassion and curiosity. And maybe ask questions about the fish 🙂

Safe Space Saturday : $5 Community class with Zia! Spread the word—now more than ever it is important we make people safe and supported. When you meet Zia you will feel just that!
Zia’s bio:
I first came to yoga from a need to heal my relationship with my body. As a trans person and eating disorder survivor, I felt simultaneously hyper aware of my body and completely disconnected from it. Yoga has offered me tools to come back to my body, and even to love it! Physical practice has helped me find strength, balance and flexibility, while the philosophy of yoga provides a roadmap to leading a healthy, meaningful and intentional life. By taking care of my whole self, yoga helps me show up for the people around me.

I’m a jack of many trades. I’ve been a bartender, jewelers assistant and tree worker. Now I’m a barista, voice actor and new yoga teacher! I’m particularly excited to share this practice with other trans and q***r people, since it’s been such a source of healing for me. Yoga classes are often a predominantly cisgender space, and the tight clothing that is so ubiquitous doesn’t feel comfortable for everyone’s gender presentation. My dream is to create a space that feels safe for trans and genderq***r people to explore yoga.

Come support your community and meet Leah this Saturday @ 4pm.

When she first came to yoga she couldn't quite fit it into the world she had built for herself that demanded relentless intensity and prioritized extreme experiences...but eventually she found her way to the mat, into her body and space to calm the noise and focus here at b|e. and now hopes to share that space with you.

As a triathlete, doula, care-taker and in her work advancing reproductive freedom for all people across New England...yoga makes her feel strong in a body that has been gripped with injury; light in a heart that has been weighed down with stress; steady in a brain that has been pulled in many directions to support competing priorities; and centered in a spirit that feels unsteady in the midst of so much political and social duress. Yoga gives her the space to care for herself and a well of strength to draw from so she can care for others.

Leah is excited to guide you through a playful, creative and higher intensity practice that empowers you to challenge yourself in advanced postures and develop ease and grace in core poses, while you move at your own pace. Maybe you struggle with practicing yoga because you can't quite find the rest amidst all the chaos by which we are constantly surrounded. I invite you to join me for class and see if we can work together towards focus and rest. (Class will be 90 minutes and have gentle music in the background.)

See you there!

$5 Community Class Saturday : Come meet one of our resident
scientists and newest teacher trainees, Jessie Davis!

Hailing from San Diego, she fell in love with Boston, the seasons and
the community she found here. As a trained chemical biologist she is
fascinated with the interplay of our experience and life at ultra-tiny
scales and the scientific understanding of the body and the universe. In
her vinyasa based classes you will find reflections on the science of
yoga and of life, both because there is beauty in how our bodies and the
world work, and because understanding how things work can help us live
better, integrated and authentic lives. You will also find references to
other things she loves like plants and animals, metal music,
scratch-making food, her dog, family and friends.

Jessie is thrilled to share her love of life through teaching. Her
classes offer a framework for everyone to explore space for growth, joy
and acceptance, and to step outside their comfort zone in a safe
supportive environment with options to modify. Come support and don’t
miss out!

🦶 STANDING POSES

Before depth — check your feet.

Press evenly through:
• Big toe mound
• Pinky toe mound
• Both sides of the heel

Stack knee over ankle.
Lengthen both sides of the waist.

Most “hard” poses become stable when your base is honest.

Ground first. Expand second.

🧱 CORE

Core isn’t crunches.
Core is control.

It’s what keeps you steady in:
• Plank
• Transitions
• Half Moon
• Jump forwards

Draw the ribs in.
Lift the pelvic floor gently.
Breathe without collapsing.

Strong doesn’t mean rigid.
Strong means responsive.

🔥 BACKBENDS

Backbends aren’t about being flexible.
They’re about strength in the back body and openness in the front.

Think:
• Press down to lift up
• Length before depth
• Glutes lightly active
• Rib cage contained

If you feel it only in your low back — back out.
If you can breathe steadily — you’re in the right place.

Open the front body. Stay steady in the back body.

Save for your next flow.

🌬️ Forward folds are about letting go 🌬️

A few reminders:
• Bend your knees
• Lengthen the spine before folding
• Let your head be heavy
• Breathe into the back body

Forward folds calm the nervous system and invite introspection — perfect for slowing down.

Nothing to prove here ✨

🎤 Teacher Spotlight: Meet Brittany Robertson

Brittany’s yoga journey began as a way to run — not physically, but from herself. At first, the practice became another pursuit of perfection: trying to fit into shapes, expectations, and definitions of what it meant to be “good enough.” But yoga, in its quiet way, had something else in mind.
Through movement, breath, and presence, Brittany learned to let go of control and return to sensation — to the parts of herself she had exiled in search of perfection. What she found instead was freedom: the relief of not needing to have everything figured out.
As a psychotherapist specializing in grief and trauma, Brittany’s teaching is rooted in somatic principles — trusting that the body knows what it needs. Her classes are less about fixing and more about feeling: attuning with curiosity, loosening the grip, and coming home to yourself.
✨ Somatic Flow
This class blends intuitive movement with vinyasa flow to invite you out of story and back into sensation. Expect breath, sound, shaking, laughter, and release — all in service of deeper embodiment and nervous system regulation.
Come as you are, with all your multitudes, and see where curiosity can take you.

⚖️ Balance is a practice, not a destination ⚖️

If you’re wobbling — you’re doing it right.

Try this when balancing:
• Pick a steady focal point (drishti)
• Engage your core before lifting
• Press down to rise up
• Fall out. Smile. Try again.

Balance poses teach patience, focus, and trust — skills that reach far beyond the mat.

What balance pose challenges you the most? 👀
