If you're thinking about getting a prenatal massage, there are a few things you should know first.
Throughout history massage has been a common practice during pregnancy to help these women to feel  more comfortable and relaxed and to relieve pain. Prenatal massage is designed for pregnant women who experiences changes in their body along with typical discomforts. It's a relaxing and therapeutic massage that mixes techniques. It has many benefits such as reducing stress, anxiety and depression related to hormone changes,  helps lymph and blood circulation, and also promotes better sleeping. 
Prenatal massage can be performed on side-lying, or prone (face down) by using body cushion system or semi-reclined position that is great for face and scalp massage. Though it has many benefits, there are also some precautions and contraindications that massage therapists need to know about.
It is important for the massage therapist to have a written release from the client's  physician if she prior to getting pregnant had diabetes, cardiac disorders, chronic hypertension . If these conditions occur during the pregnancy it would be a contraindication to massage. Other high risk moms are women with history of previous miscarriage, lung or liver disorder, severe anemia, drug addiction, RH negative mothers. Therapists should not massage mothers to be that present complications such as vaginal bleeding, pelvic or abdominal pain or cramping, or regular uterine contractions before 37 weeks.
